Justice Newsletter - March 19

Dear Justice Students and Families,

I am saddened and appalled to have to address yet another incident of violence, harassment, and hate – this time targeting Asian Americans. The increased violence and fatal shootings in Atlanta on Tuesday, March 16th were devastating. The emotions around these heinous acts have certainly left our Asian American community with great sadness, anxiety, and fear, and we are here to support them.

As FCPS has shared, we will continue to address any misinformation and xenophobic language that leads to mistreatment of our students, families, and colleagues from Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities.

Advancing racial equity and inclusion for students and families of all races and ethnicities is paramount to promoting a safe and welcoming environment that fosters respect for differences and an appreciation of diversity. We, at Justice, denounce all forms of discrimination, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, economic standing, or personal circumstance. We embrace diversity and strive toward a culture where every student feels included, seen, and heard.

If your child experiences any form of harassment, bullying, intimidation, or racism, please immediately contact an administrator or counselor who can help with next steps to keep your child safe and secure.

We will be holding an opportunity for students to share and reflect on Wednesday, 3/24, from 9:43-10:15 am (advisory). A link to an RSVP form will be posted in the grade level google classrooms.

Sincerely,

Maria Eck
