Franklin MS Weekly Update - March 19

Dear Franklin Families and Students,

As we finish this week together as a school community, I wanted to take the opportunity to address the tragic events that occurred a few days ago in Atlanta. We have been increasingly alarmed by the rise in anti-Asian bias and violence over the past year and are saddened by the shootings in Georgia this week that have served to bring this important issue forward for many in our country.

At Franklin, we remain fully committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming school community for all of our students and families. We denounce all forms of discrimination, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, economic standing, or personal circumstance. We aspire to have a school culture where each and every student feels included, seen, and heard. We stand with FCPS and the response they shared earlier this week regarding Increased Violence Against Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders  https://www.fcps.edu/response-aapi-harassment.

We will continue to work daily to foster a sense of belonging for all members of the Franklin school community and are here to provide additional support to individual students as needed. If you feel that your child is in need of additional social or emotional support during these challenging times, please contact us so that a counselor can get in touch with your family. In addition, here are some resources that you might find helpful in addressing these complex issues at home:

Thank you for all that you do to support your student and the Franklin community.

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright

Principal
