Another great week back at school!!
2 Hour Early Dismissal on March 26
Friday, March 26, is the last day of the third quarter and is a two-hour early release day. Dismissal for students at school begins at 2:15pm. Virtual students will be notified by their teachers.
Spring Break and Teacher Workday
Spring Break is March 29-April 2. There is NO SCHOOL and the OFFICE is CLOSED.
Monday, April 5 is a teacher workday. There is NO SCHOOL for students. The office will be open during regular hours.
We look forward to seeing our students on Tuesday, April 6.

Plan ahead! Herndon ES will be distributing 7 day weekly Meal Kits on Wednesday, March 24 AND Friday, March 26, 10:00am-12:30pm.
Stop by BOTH DAYS, since the menus are different.

Important Medication News from the School Health Room

If you need to keep medication in the health room for your student(s) please contact Mercy Caloyannides, School Health Aide, to make an appointment to drop off the medication. Students are not permitted to bring their medication to school. All medications require authorization forms. Information about School Health Services and all medical authorization forms can be found here.

 Sign up for HES Picture Day!
On 4/19/2021 from 9:30pm - 4:30pm, parents will have an opportunity to bring their children to school for an individual school picture. Parents are required to sign up in order to have their child(ren)’s portrait taken. If you choose to have your child’s photo taken, you can sign up for a time slot and find the link to purchase photos here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0B4AA8AC2DA64-herndon. You are welcome to purchase pictures in advance by going on line and placing an order with My.lifetouch.com . You may also place orders after picture day is completed. Virtual Science Assembly on April 23
We had such a great response from Jive in the Hive that we've been able to schedule a Virtual Science Assembly from MadScience on April 23. So save the date and look for more details as we get closer! MadScience provides interactive shows that your student will be able to see right from home as they follow experiments, participate in lab shenanigans, and learn more about science all around them. Chess Club: Reassemble!
Does your child miss Chess Club? We are hoping to offer another round in April, but we need at least 6 students to participate. If your child has an interest in meeting before school, let our VP of Volunteers Jenny know by emailing herndonPTAvolunteers@gmail.com.
Virtual Field Trips
As we continue to research exciting virtual field trips your student may take, we came across two that you can do on your own with your child that will enhance their learning this year:
The Kennedy Center has a wide variety of options at https://www.kennedy-center.org/virtualfieldtrips. From concerts specifically geared toward young people to stories with instruments to cultural appreciation, you will find something to solidify your child's interest and exposure to the arts. Take a look and cuddle up together!
Frying Pan Park's new “Field Trips for All” programs offer parents a unique opportunity to supplement their child’s science learning with real outdoor experiences and application of the concepts required in the Virginia standards of learning. Topics include but are not limited to life cycles (a great time since the park is experiencing a baby boom) and life in historic Virginia. This program is geared by grade level to provide enrichment to all learners including homeschool. Registration is limited to allow for social distancing. Groups of more than 8 should consider booking a field trip directly with a park by visiting the park’s web site. All attendees, parents and students, must register to control group size. Kindergarten Registration for 2021-2022 is Open!
Don't wait! Tell your neighbors and friends, too! A child may enter kindergarten for this coming school year if he or she turns five on or before September 30, 2021.
