PTSA Scholarship Announcement

The Hayfield Secondary PTSA will be offering four $500 scholarships to our Hayfield Seniors this year. Attached is the flyer and the application form. Applications are due by April 17 at 3pm. Students will submit their applications to 1stvp@hssptsa.org

AP Testing Information Night

(For Current HS students taking an AP course and their Parents/Guardians)

There have been a number of changes to AP testing Dates, Formats and fees in the last month.  If you would like to learn more about those changes and ask questions, we will be having an AP Testing Informational night on Thursday, March 18th from 7pm-8pm

FCPS College Partnership Program

The College Partnership Program (CPP) is designed to assist students who are traditionally underrepresented in college (i.e First Generation, African-American, Hispanic, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, English Learners, students with disabilities or economically disadvantaged) in exploring, applying and enrolling in college. In accordance with FCPS’ goal to eliminate gaps in opportunity, access and achievement for all students, CPP focuses on academic advising, college visits, parent engagement and preparation beyond high school.

The application window is now open for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. To access the application, students should join the Schoology group: Temporary College Partnership Program using the code D964-Q9WR-Q8P3S. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 19.

Sophomore Young Scholars Parent Night (Virtual)

Attention all parents of sophomore Young Scholars! There will be an information and Q&A session regarding Young Scholars on March 23rd 5:30pm-6:30pm in conjunction with the sophomore college night. We’ll cover what a Young Scholar is, how we work with our sophomore Young Scholars, and provide some strategies for supporting your Young Scholars at home; there will be time to ask questions during the session. A link to join the session will be sent the day before the session. Sophomore “Preparing for College” Night- March 23 at 6:30 p.m. (Virtual)

Preparing for College is an informative and fun virtual program specifically designed to help 10th graders and parents plan for college. Our special guest is Ms. Erin Slater, Director of Admissions, Randolph-Macon College. There will be a question and answer opportunity via chat on Zoom.*   Please note: This will be a joint Hayfield- Lewis- Edison- South County High School event exclusively for 10th graders. Please pre-register here.  After registering, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with the link to the live workshop. 

 Limit one registration per household (although the same registration can be used on multiple devices in the same household). You do not need a Zoom account to participate.  The only information you will need to register for this Zoom event is: Student Name, High School and Email address (do NOT use your fcpsschools.net address, because Zoom cannot e-mail you the link to the program).


College Planning Events for Juniors

Your counselors are planning TWO special events for you to learn more about the college selection and application process.

Part 1: Pre-Flight Checklist: College Planning for Juniors

Students, please join your school counselors on Monday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m. for a virtual session on college planning. We’ll talk about how to find the right college for you, whether you should take the SAT/ACT, and more! No pre-registration necessary. The meeting will be held in BBCU through Schoology. To join the meeting from the main Schoology page, click on Courses > All Students > Collaborate Ultra > “Pre-Flight Checklist: College Planning for Juniors”.  

Part 2:   Pre-Flight Checklist: Advice from Admissions Professionals

On Thursday, April 15 at 6:30 p.m., we will host an evening program exclusively for juniors and their parents/guardians, with college admissions officers who will give you insider advice on choosing a college and the application process. Registration is required. RSVP here and a link will be sent to you!


For Seniors: NOVA’s Virtual Visits to Hayfield (For students not in the Pathway Program)

NOVA will offer four special information sessions for Hayfield seniors and our neighboring high schools this spring. This week’s session is “NOVA Application Help Session” on Thursday, March 18 from 5:00- 6:00 p.m.

Military Mondays

The high schools in FCPS Region 3 will co-host our military recruiters for virtual information sessions on enlistment opportunities in each service branch. These events will be held every Monday at 3:00 p.m., starting March 1 and running through mid-April. Meeting links are published in the College & Career Newsletter and sent to students on Fridays. SSG Lashaunda Hawkins of the Army will be our guest this Monday, March 15. NO pre-registration required- click here for meeting link.
