Glasgow Community Gazette - March 14

Glasgow Community:

My family enjoyed a quick hike this weekend in Maryland. I love seeing all the beautiful hints of spring!

We have truly enjoyed having your students return to the building. So many of our teachers have shared that it is a joy having students back into their classrooms again - the building is so energized! A big thank you to our NJHS who have adorned our hallways with awesome welcome back posters, see below for a sample. While we know this is still a transitional time for everyone, we hope that students who have returned have also felt some positive connection in being back. If you child is scheduled to return to the building and has not yet done so, please be aware that per new FCPS policy, any student scheduled for in-person instruction who has not yet attended school in-person by March 26th will be automatically switched to virtual instruction for the remainder of the school year.

This coming week we will have our FCPS-directed catch-up days on Thursday and Friday, March 18 and 19. For each of these periods, virtual students will need to login to class at the beginning of class and check in with their teacher. If students are caught up on all of their assignments, virtual students may log off, or they may complete ungraded extension opportunities that students in the building will also have the opportunity to access, as they move from class to class.

As always, please reach out to me with any questions.

Teachers will take attendance and remind students about any work they need to complete; no new lessons or additional assignments will occur on these days.

Important Information

Save the Date!  Picture Day is Coming April 6, 7, 8 & 9!  - Glasgow students will have the opportunity to have their picture taken in April!  Students who are attending school in-person will have their picture taken during their Health and PE class on either the Tuesday/Wednesday Cohort or the Thursday/Friday Cohort. Students who are virtual will be able to make an appointment and have their picture taken after school hours on either April 7th or April 8th. Here is the link to the Sign Up Genius. Pictures will be taken in the library.  Directions for procedures for entering the school for the after hours picture days will be sent out at the end of spring break. We WILL NOT be using these pictures in the yearbook, so please do not feel obligated to have your student’s picture taken.  This is an opportunity we wanted to offer to our Glasgow families since some of our students haven’t had their picture taken since October, 2019. Please click on the link regarding Lifetouch’s enhanced cleaning protocols on Picture Day.

Attendance Updates - Starting this week, teachers will begin to use a new attendance code if a student scheduled for In-Person instruction is not present in-person but logged in from home. This new code will trigger an automatic attendance notification. If you are planning to keep your In-Person student home for a reason such as sickness or lack of transportation, please contact the school attendance line to let us know. IMPORTANT: Per new FCPS policy, any student scheduled for in-person instruction who has not yet attended school in-person by March 26th will be automatically switched to virtual instruction for the remainder of the school year.

Bus Stop Information - Students and parents will find their bus stop information in SIS StudentVUE and ParentVUE. From a computer, log-in and click on “Student Information.” The mobile app will not have this information. If you have requested a bus stop but do not see a bus stop yet, please check back again as the FCPS transportation department may take several days before a bus stop is created. For transportation questions, please contact Karen Hanson at krhanson@fcps.edu.

Enrollment Intent Change Requests - At this time we are only able to approve requests for parents to change their enrollment to Virtual. Unfortunately, due to staffing and social distancing constraints, we are not able to approve any changes for students to be enrolled in-person at this time. If you would like to switch your child to virtual or request your child to be placed on the waitlist for in-person instruction, please complete the following request form in English, Spanish, or Arabic. The deadline for wait-list requests is March 26, 2021. At this time we have over 160 families on the waitlist for in-person instruction and remaining space for students is extremely limited due to staffing and operating capacity.

Pictures of Students and Staff Playing Sports for the Yearbook  - Okay Glasgow Community!  The yearbook staff has their next request for pictures!  We would like to have students and staff submit pictures playing sports. With sports leagues ramping up for the spring, many of you might be playing a sport on a team.  Some of you might dance, ice skate, swim or do gymnastics. Hiking, biking, running, or just exercising in the neighborhood are more ideas.  Get creative.   That’s what we are looking for.  We will collect pictures for 2 weeks. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Perella, yearbook advisor, at maperella@fcps.edu. The deadline is March 26th

Pictures may be submitted these 2 ways:

  • Balfour EZPix web site:  https://studio.balfour.com/ezpix/

    • Upload Code:  Please leave blank.  No Code is necessary.
