It’s National Athletic Training Month!

FCPS School Board Statement:

March is National Athletic Training Month and this year’s theme is “Essential to Health Care,” an appropriate slogan reflecting the important role certified athletic trainers employed by Fairfax County Public Schools play in keeping our students safe.  This slogan perhaps carries a bit more weight this year given all that has happened since last March and the important role our Certified Athletic Trainers have played in our efforts to resume athletic opportunities within FCPS.

Nationally certified and state licensed medical professionals, FCPS athletic trainers dedicate themselves to promoting the health and safety of our student-athletes before, during and after practices and competitions.  While the last year has forced our athletic trainers to adapt to a changing environment, FCPS athletic trainers remain committed to providing the full complement of athletic healthcare services that has defined this group of professionals over the nearly 40 years that FCPS has employed athletic trainers in our high schools.  In fact, even with the interruptions in our spring athletic season, over 8700 students received care from an FCPS athletic trainer during the 2019-20 school year, accounting for 67,000 visits to our 25 athletic training facilities.

Our ability to resume out-of-season workouts last July and competitive athletics in December has required all involved with our athletic programs to navigate a host of challenges to support our student-athletes.  FCPS athletic trainers, in partnership with Directors of Student Activities, Assistant Directors and Student Activities and athletic coaches have been at the forefront of these efforts, developing and implementing a host of new policies and protocols designed to keep students safe.

FCPS athletic trainers consistently go above and beyond to support our athletic programs and without question are essential members of each school’s activities program.  Even when faced with unprecedented circumstances, FCPS athletic trainers play a vital role in our overall efforts to support athletic opportunities for FCPS students.

We are fortunate to have two amazing ATCs at Lake Braddock who are 110% devoted to our student-athletes! Please give them a heartfelt thank you when you see them!

Spectators

Great News! FCPS has been given the go ahead to allow limited spectators at indoor and outdoor events held on FCPS campuses. Per the Governor's mandate, spectators at indoor events are limited to 25 spectators and outdoor athletic events to 250 spectators per contest. Below outlines the process we will use to institute this. A must read, should you have the opportunity to attend an event.

  • Per FCPS, spectator attendance has been permitted for ALL levels (Freshman, JV, Varsity) for home and away contests. Attendance will be limited to 25 (home team) spectators for indoor sports (free of charge) and 2-spectators per athlete for outdoor events not to exceed 250 (190 spectators for the home team and 60 spectators for the visiting team) -  $5 entry fee, please bring exact change.

General Guidelines

Per the Fairfax County Park Authority, there will be no spectators allowed at their outdoor facilities for Golf and Cross County.

  • Attendance will be allowed at home and away events for all levels - Freshman, JV, and Varsity.
  • A Google Form will be sent out to the athletes/families to be added to the spectator list.
    • Varsity Football, Cheer, and Dance families must complete the Google Form for the last home game on 3/19.  Individuals must be registered no later than Wednesday 3/17.  Names must be on this list to enter the facility. For away games, student-athletes will receive their ticket prior to the game.
    • F/JV Football and Cheer families will no longer need to complete the Google Form.  Tickets will be provided to student-athletes for away games. Spectators will simply purchase a $5 ticket at the gate located by the lower turf.
    • Field Hockey families will no longer need to complete the Google Form.  Tickets will be provided to student-athletes for away games.  Spectators will simply purchase a $5 ticket at the gate located by the lower turf.
    • Volleyball coaches will work with their families to identify an equity distribution of the 25 spectators.
    • Golf and Cross Country facilities/venues are not permitting spectators at this time.
  • Indoor sport spectators are asked to arrive at the school, no earlier than 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. We cannot allow entrance into the gym until all previous game/event spectators have exited. If the weather isn't cooperative, you may want to wait in your cars.
  • Outdoor sport spectators are asked to arrive at the field, no earlier than 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.  Entry time to the facility will last one hour.
  • As you enter the facility, you will be required to check-in and answer a set of Covid-19 screening questions.
  • Spectators will be directed to a specific section of the facility. There will be limited concessions available at outdoor events.  Outside food and drink is prohibited (with the exception of water).
  • All spectators must wear masks at all times! Spectators will also be expected to practice safe social distancing while on the school grounds. You may sit with members of your household and you must be six feet from spectators that are not living within your household.
  • At the conclusion of the game, spectators will need to exit the facility as directed immediately. This is to ensure that we can have a smooth transition between games and allow staff to follow FCPS and VHSL protocols.

Although we understand that this doesn't get us back to normal and allow for everyone who wants to attend an event to do so, we hope this is a step in that direction.  We remind everyone  that SPORTSMANSHIP is an expectation of those attending an event at Lake Braddock Secondary School. As members of Patriot District, Occoquan Region and the Virginia High School League we have high standards of sportsmanship is what we expect from those in attendance towards the players, fans and officials. We appreciate your positive support!

Clubs and Activities

  • The Club Council is putting together a virtual club fair. We need your help! The fair is currently scheduled to be held on Friday, March 19th, during WIN time via BBCU and Google Classroom. Even if you can’t make it, please fill out this Google form ASAP. This is a great way to promote and find new people for your club.

The way it will work:

Option 1: The plan is to have each club available to hold an “interest meeting” during WIN time. During that time, students will be able to join your club meeting link to attend your interest meeting and learn more about your club.

Option 2:  Another option will be to create a “club interest presentation” that can be viewed by anyone with the link. Students interested in your club will then have easy access to learn more and how to contact you.

Please complete this Sign-up form.

  1. Concussion Education is now a required step within registration. Signed paper versions will no longer be collected by the Athletic Training Program or Activities Office. Please carefully review the information in its entirety. It will need to be signed electronically by both the parent and student. This will be our only accepted form of Concussion Education completion moving forward.
  2. Emergency Care Form information is now collected via the registration process. Please make sure this information is complete and accurate, as it will be shared with EMS in the event of an emergency. While no longer needed for tryouts, hard copies are still REQUIRED for Green/Yellow Day activities in the event an Athletic Trainer is not available.
  3. VHSL Physical Forms will continue to be collected by the Athletic Training Staff or Activities Office. Physicals can either be emailed to Kristyn Wharton at kwharton@fcps.edu (PDF format), mailed to the school, or dropped off in the main office. If you have already submitted a physical for this school year, it is on file and will remain valid until June 30th, 2021. Blank VHSL forms can be found here.
  4. Parent/Guardian Health Screening Commitment Form is an agreement to complete a daily health screening prior to sending your student-athlete to school. We are asking parents to complete this form electronically. This will allow your child to enter the building for workouts and/or practices amidst COVID-19 procedures. To fill this form out, please click here.
  5. Tryout Card Distribution will be shared via News You Choose, the LB Athletics website, and social media prior to the start of each season. We typically distribute tryout cards the week before each season starts. Please keep an eye out for this information as your season approaches!
