Principal's Message - 3/6/21

Good Morning Parents and Families:

We had an extremely successful week as we welcomed our 8th grade students who returned to school in-person. It was so nice to see our bus loop and kiss-n-ride “buzzing” again in the morning, our hallways filled with students getting to and from class, the hands-on activities going on in our classrooms, students eating lunch in the cafeteria and having the opportunity for fresh air during walks in PE. Yes, it all looks different, yet I am so proud of our students, staff and community for partnering together for a safe return to school.

While some of our students have returned in-person, our focus has been to ensure ALL of our students continue to feel engaged, connected and supported.  Check out this great video brought to you by members of our NJHS.  It has been great to still get into our virtual classes to watch the interaction between classmates in-person & at home. I want to applaud our staff and students for yet another successful transition in this journey of navigating teaching and learning in this hybrid/concurrent setting.

This week, we welcome back our 7th grade students who will return in-person. On Thursday, March 11, I will host the final town hall for the month of March. This will be for all families (in-person and virtual) as an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback.

Looking ahead, our 3rd quarter Catch Up Days will be March 25 and March 26. Students who attend school in-person will still attend school in-person. All students will go to their classes as normal and will have time to make up assignments, receive additional support and complete assignments as we close out the 3rd quarter and get ready for Spring Break.

Again, I am so grateful for your continued support. Continue to reach out if you need anything.

Have a great weekend,

Meredith Norris, Principal

Portrait of a Panther

I had the opportunity to engage with several students this week, both in-person and on the computer. What struck me this week was our students’ thoughtfulness, ability to communicate in conversation, and the overall perseverance and resilience of enduring the number of changes they have been through this last year. To that end, we have a few more Portrait of a Panther winners this week.

Upcoming Parent Survey

This spring all Stone parents/guardians will be contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online. This questionnaire is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include instructional leadership, school climate, human resources management, organizational management, communication and community relations and professionalism.

Understanding that this has been an unusual year, the impacts of COVID-19 will be taken into consideration when reviewing the feedback. The questionnaire will be collected online between March 8 and March 19. When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire.
