Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

Happy first week of March!  As a reminder, there is a 2 hour early release for students today, both in person and virtually.  All instruction will end at 1:30pm.  On Monday, March 8th, we have a staff development day and student holiday.  There are no Morning Meetings, live instruction, or asynchronous assignments on Monday, March 8th.

We welcome the return of many of our 1st and 2nd grade students back to the building next week, and hope to see many more through car windows on Thursday, March 11th or Monday, March 15th...  That’s right, another learning materials distribution day!

On Thursday, 3/11 from 3:45 - 4:30pm and Monday, 3/15 from 2:30 - 4:00pm we will be in the Kiss N Ride Loop.  If your Preschool - 6th grade child has or is returning to Stenwood in person, you do NOT need to drive through to pick up the packet; it will be sent home on your child’s next in person day.  If your child is fully virtual for the remainder of the school year, please plan on driving through to pick up the learning materials.  Inside this week’s packet, you’ll find a special item from the PTA - a Bingo Board so that your child can participate in the upcoming Family Fun Night on March 19th!  Stay tuned for details from the PTA.

Resources for Return to School

We will continue to host Parent Coffees and send out the slide decks/recordings directly to families who are preparing for their child’s return to in person instruction.  If you have a student returning in an upcoming group, please check for eNotify messages with information on how to access the sessions and/or recordings.  Below are FCPS resources that may also be useful as you prepare your family for the return:

Selfie Portraits for the Stenwood Yearbook:

Due 3/12

Selfie Portrait

Whether your student is in school, learning virtually or doing a hybrid of the two, the Stenwood yearbook staff is working harder than ever to get every student in the yearbook and cover every story during this unique, historic year. If your child did not make it to our in person fall portrait days at Stenwood, there is another opportunity to get your child’s picture in the yearbook.  If your child participated in the fall portrait day, you do not need to submit a picture.  Walsworth and High5.ID are partnering with us by offering Selfie Portraits.  Some families will not receive the email because of their opt out choices from the fall.

Follow this quick, easy and safe three-step process to make sure your student’s portrait gets in the yearbook!

Step 1

You will receive a link via email to take your student’s picture. Make sure you have your student's ID number handy. You can also access the program by going here.

Step 2

You or your student will take their selfie portrait on your phone or computer webcam and upload.

Step 3

Photos are sent directly to our system and are used to create yearbook portraits.

Get Started

If your photo is rejected for quality issues, you may be asked to retake and submit a new portrait. The deadline to receive all student portraits is MARCH 12, 2021!

Positivity Project: Social Intelligence

PP Logo

This week, we are focusing on Social Intelligence. You are aware of other people’s thoughts and feelings. You understand why they do things.

“When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen.”

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • What does a good listener do?
  • What does being a good listener have to do with Social Intelligence?
  • What can you do to be a better listener?

Curbside Library Checkout

Stingers can now go to Destiny Discover, the library catalog, and put books on hold!

Please note that the catalog may give you a pop-up message saying the book is ready – do not believe it!  Only come to the school AFTER you receive an email from us letting you know the items are ready and what time you’ll be able to pick them up. Be sure to mark your calendar because after one week, the books will be returned to the library so other students may enjoy them.

Click here for directions on how to put books on hold.

Need to return books?  You may return library books on Mondays from 2:30-3:30PM and Thursdays from 3:45-4:30PM.  Drop off location will be in the Kiss-n-Ride loop in the back of the school. As always, please contact Mrs. Cole, our librarian, if you have any questions.
