Service Learning Information

We want to make sure you have up-to-date information about service learning.  We have posted information on the CVHS website at this link regarding FCPS Service Learning and x2VOL.  CVHS must be in alignment with these policies. A few highlights include:

  • The purpose of service learning is to involve students in authentic, intentional, and impactful acts of volunteerism in their communities.
    • Students need a minimum of 40 approved hours to earn the service cord and 50 hours toward the civics seal.
  • The Class of 2021 is required to submit verified service learning hours in x2VOL by April 21 to receive the service cord. This means approved by an adult from the sponsoring organization (NOT a parent). Please do not wait until the last day.
  • The student reflection matters! Please be thoughtful in describing what you learned and how it met a community need.
  • If several weeks or months have gone by without verification, please gently reach out to that contact person to follow up. It is up to you to check your account.
  • Review the Q&A carefully – ie. students can count Honor Society or Scouting volunteer hours toward x2VOL goals. However, attendance at a meeting, the act of donating goods, and travel time to an event does not qualify as service learning.

If you have any questions, please contact CVHS x2VOL Administrators – Mrs. Stamper (kastamper@fcps.edu) or Mrs. Heatwole (asheatwole@fcps.edu).  Thank you!
