Scottie Tales for the week of March 8

A Note From Your Principal

Before I get into the details for the week I want to pause and recognize that today is International Women's Day. I want to first say thank you to my Mom (I still call her once a week to check in), and my wife (Jennie you are amazing). Both are two of the most amazing strong and women in my life, love you both! To all the women in our lives that are Saints and Superheroes everyday, thank you! Our amazing school could not be what it is without all of the women both in the walls of BBES and out in the community of Bonnie Brae. To all of the amazing women in our community I say thank you.

Tomorrow, we welcome back our First and Second grade Scotties to the building and we couldn't be more excited to have them join our Kindergarteners who are already here. If your Scottie is returning tomorrow please be sure that your student knows how they are getting home, has all the supplies they need including an extra mask, and you have completed the Health Screening Commitment Form which is linked at the bottom.

As we return routines and procedures are being updated and tweaked to ensure we are operating at our full potential. Please be patient, with new guidelines and strict social distancing protocols things will take a little longer than usual. If you feel things are taking too long or have another suggestion how we might be able to change a protocol we have please refrain from stopping the staff when they are at their arrival or dismissal post. Instead, feel free to come to our next PTO meeting and join in a reflective dialogue on how the BBES return to in-person-learning has gone. We would love to hear from you.

National Reading Month is also celebrated in the month of March and we are excited to partner with our amazing PTO to celebrate reading. This month the PTO is sponsoring a Read-a-thon with prizes awarded to the classes that read the most. For more information on this and more please visit our Read-a-thon section on the school website. When you visit the website be on the lookout for your favorite Bonnie Brae staff member reading their favorite book.

We are hosting our last round of Parent Principal Town Halls next week for grades 3-6. This will give us an opportunity to present the most relevant information to you, as well as an opportunity for us to answer those burning questions you still might have. All meetings will be recorded and the link will be sent out the following day for those who were not able to attend.  Dates, times, and recordings from previous meetings are as follows:

Grade level  Date  Time  Link
Grades 3 - 6  March 9 7 pm - 8 pm

Health Screening Commitment Form

If your student(s) are coming back to in-person instruction, the county is asking you to complete the Parent/ Guardian Health Screening Commitment form either in paper or in ParentVue prior to the return of your student(s) group. Please visit the FCPS website for more information on the Commitment Form.

Transportation

As your return date gets closer, transportation information will be available through ParentVue. Please login to get the most current bus stop and route information from there. If you do not have a ParentVue account reach out to our Technology Specialist, Erica Demick (eademick@fcps.edu) for assistance.

As indicated in previous editions of the Scottie Takes, our bell schedule has changed as of February. Please take a few minutes to check out the New Bell Schedule to find your grade level specific schedule.

As always, we are going to come out stronger because of each other. Stay safe, take care of yourself and take care of each other.

Best,

Celebrate the Students

Shhhhh, don't spoil the surprise! We want to celebrate the growth, resiliency, strength of the students at Bonnie Brae during this time. Starting after school March 19 there will be a bucket of sidewalk chalk by the front doors the school. Over the weekend and throughout the week, without your students knowing swing by the school and leave a message of encouragement and support for our students to see as they come to school this week. Let's fill up the sidewalks of our school with messages for all our students. #Scottiepride

5th / 6th Chorus

Do you have a 5th or 6th grader who would be interest in chorus this year?

Mrs. Oedemann and Miss Warr are excited to welcome students back to the school! We are hoping, if space and time allow, to hold some sort of choir class this year.

If we are able to hold a choir class, students will wear masks and be socially distant.

If you are a 5th or 6th grade student and are interested in being in choir this year, please fill out the Google Form below! This form is not a sign up for choir but simply a form to gauge interest. More information to come!
