Principals' Message

Dear Gunston Family,

We have been enjoying reading to our eagles at night to celebrate Read Across America week.  The daily flipgrids have been awesome to watch.  Please consider joining us tonight for our mystery readers and more great stories.  Our students have been working hard during virtual learning and we are impressed with their discussions and projects.  Third quarter interim reports should be emailed today.  Please take this time to reflect with your children about their strengths and areas for growth.  It is important that students are participating in class and completing their assignments.  As always, if you have any concerns please reach out to the teachers so you can continue to collaborate together.

We are so excited that we were able to welcome back our kindergarten students and are prepared to bring back our first and second grade students next week.    If you were not able to attend the community meeting, please watch the video to learn about how in-person school will be different.  Please remember that the classes were changed based on preference information from July and October.  We have rearranged classes and will not be able to honor all additional changes at this time.  We have recently resent our letters stating the days your students will come to school if in-person was selected previously.  Please note that if we are able to accommodate a change, it takes time and will not be immediate.

We look forward to our upcoming events that are scheduled for the rest of the year, such as virtual STEM Night and Heritage Nights.  Stay tuned for more information!

Thank you for all you continue to do to support your children and teachers.  We are in this together and love our Gunston family!

Warmly,

Ms. Rucinski and Mrs. Opie

Arrival/Dismissal Reminders

As more students join in-person instruction, it will take longer for buses and cars to load and unload.

The Kiss & Ride doors open at 8:50am and close at 9:00am.  If you arrive after 9:00am you must park your car and escort your student to door #1 in order to sign them in late.  In the afternoon, Kiss & Ride begins dismissing at 3:15pm.

Thank you for staying in your car and following the staff members' guidance as they direct you to pull forward.

Each family using the Kiss & Ride will need to have a tag displayed in their front windshield.  Kiss & Ride tags are distributed through the main office.

Forms

In-person Learning Required Forms

*Forms only need to be completed one time, per child.

Prior to your child’s return to in-person learning, you will need to make sure that the following forms have been completed:

This document indicates the parent or guardian’s agreement and commitment to completing a daily health screening prior to sending the student to school and also to keep sick students at home.

Parents/guardians may access the document in their preferred language and will receive reminders in ParentVUE until the form has been submitted.

If you do not have a ParentVUE account, you may provide your commitment on a hardcopy form. You will find the commitment form and all translated versions here

Students whose parent/guardian have not returned a signed Parent/Guardian Health Screening Commitment form will be required to complete a health screening until the form is received.

Signed forms can be scanned and sent to LCPresnell@fcps.edu

We cannot accept Emergency Care/Health forms that are not signed and dated within the 2020-21 school year (starting September 2020).

If you already have a Parent SIS account, you can go to weCare@school for detailed instructions on completing the emergency care form using FCPS 24-7 Learning (login with your ParentVUE credentials).

Signed forms can be scanned and sent to LCPresnell@fcps.edu. We ask that you please do not send in any photos of forms.

Medication

Parents will need to drop-off medications and the appropriate forms prior to their child returning to in-person instruction. Call the school for an appointment to drop off these items.
