Message from the Principal

Langley HS

Greetings Saxons,

Saxon Country is buzzing with energy as teachers have returned to the building. Final touches are being made to ensure Langley is ready to welcome students back to the building beginning on Tuesday. Our joy is elevated thanks to the many ways our students and staff continue to shine!

As we have kicked off our fall sports season,  I wish each of the fall sports athletes great luck! While the weather will be nippy for those outdoor games, I’m sure the energy of the athletes will be more than enough to keep us pumped up and invigorated!

Speaking of contests, there’s great news to share!

Wednesday’s senior gathering was a hit. We had over 100 seniors come out to reconnect with friends and enjoy a treat. Thank you to our amazing parent volunteers for helping to make the event such a success!

On behalf of our school community, a tremendous thank you to our fabulous custodial team. They go above and beyond to ensure our building and grounds are beautifully maintained. We so appreciate them!

A huge shout out to the Langley Quizbowl Team- They are Region Champions! Please congratulate and celebrate William Orr, Aidan Nguyen, Aidan Mousavi, and Kai Nielsen as they prepare to compete in the state championship on March 13th!

Our very own Fashion Marketing teacher Tricia Poythress was recently featured in the McLean*Vienna Connection. Ms. Poythress is a shining star in the Langley community so it is delightful to see her highlighted.

Dr. Fisher has earned FCPS Cares recognition by the school division. She and a colleague have created a podcast which has been very helpful for FCPS staff. Congratulations, Dr. Fisher. Thank you for the many ways you serve not only our school community but the school division at large. Community members are welcome to highlight school employees through the FCPS Cares Program. If you would like to recognize a staff member, please use this link to submit.

As we resume in person learning next week, I would like to share just how proud I am of our teachers. They are to be heralded for the courageous lengths to which they have gone in order to continue to meet the needs of our children. Under the best of circumstances, teaching is never an easy undertaking. When you throw in a pandemic and virtual learning, it seems almost insurmountable.  Our teachers faced the challenges of virtual learning with determination.

Their flexibility, creativity and focus on kids have served our school community well. I thank them for the grace and space they have shown one another, our students and our school community.

I’m looking forward to seeing kids back in the building beginning on Tuesday. After eleven months of virtual learning, returning to in person learning will be a transition. Should you or your student need anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We continue to chart this course together. Our community is committed to ensuring each of our children is seen, welcomed, and respected. Thank you for your partnership in this work.

Wishing you wellness,
