Welcome back teachers!

A message from Principal, Amy Miller:

Dear Kilmer Families,

This week we welcomed back all of our in-person teachers. It is exciting to have teachers back in the building and preparing for students to return as well. Thank you to the PTA for providing a grab n’ go breakfast for the teachers. We really appreciate support from the PTA and the Kilmer community!

Although I was not able to hold Friday lunch groups due to the asynchronous days, I was able to visit classrooms this week. In science the students were learning about cells. The pictures that the teachers were showing were so detailed and engaging. In civics the students were learning about the Judicial Branch of Government and were having powerful discussions in their breakout groups.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Sincerely,

Amy Miller, Principal

Preparing for Students to Return to the Building

As we prepare for students to return to the building, it is important to note that we have built our master schedule and classroom assignments based on the in-person selections we currently have.  We must maintain established social distancing guidelines and cannot exceed classroom capacity within the classrooms. At this point, any new requests to return to school in-person will be evaluated after all students who are currently designated as in-person students have returned to the building.

Friday, March 5 - Two Hour Early Release

Friday, March 5 is a two-hour early release day for students. Students who are scheduled to be in-person on Friday, March 5 will be in-person. Below is the bell schedule:

Please note that 6th and 8th periods are flipped for this day

Virtual Photo Option

We are partnering with Walsworth, our yearbook publisher, for digital photos to use in the yearbook. All families should have received an email from Walsworth within the next few days with the subject line, “Kilmer - Yearbook Mugshot Capture ” sent from noreply@email.high5.id;  please check your spam or junk folders to find the email if you do not see it by the end of next week.  You will be able to take a digital photo of your student with either a smart phone or the FCPS provided laptop.

The email from Walsworth was sent to all families. If your student had a photo taken in-person with Lifetouch, please ignore it.

Lifetouch Photo Pick-Up

The photos from Lifetouch have arrived and are available for pick up next Thursday, March 4th from 4-6pm at the front of the school. All students who had their photo taken have a photo package. Information will be included in the packages for ordering portraits if you did not already order them.

2nd Community Night

Mark your calendars! Our 2nd Community Night will be on Thursday, March 25th at 7pm and will be another Kilmer Trivia Night, new questions, more prizes. This is a great opportunity for students and their families to come together in a fun way. Students will access the evening starting at 6:45 with the “Community Night” BBCU link in the All Students Course in Schoology (page 13).

What’s on the Shelf: News from the Kilmer Library

We are so excited to welcome students back into the school building in the next few weeks. We know that many of our students are eager to get their hands on library books and in-person learning will make this easier. Students can place books on hold through our library catalog and can pick those books up on the days they are in the building from a table in our main hallway.

We will continue to offer Cougars @ the Curb checkout service for all of our students -- in-person and virtual -- and are shifting the pick-up day to Wednesdays, 2:15pm to 4:00pm. If you have any questions at all about library services, please reach out to librarian Gretchen Hazlin: gehazlin@fcps.edu.
