 Freshmen Welcome Day
1. From the Principal's Desk
Dear Members of the Chantilly Community:
“Everyone needs a house to live in, but a supportive family is what builds a home.” Anthony Liccione
After being separated from students for almost a year, this week felt like we are preparing for a family reunion on Tuesday. The level of enthusiasm and excitement in the building is palpable. While there are glitches to figure out, teachers and staff are really looking forward to interacting directly with students once again. Tuesday night’s football game—a 25-0 win over Edison—and today’s orientation for 9th graders (see picture) reminded me just how much I enjoy working in high school. There is lots of good news to share this week, and it’s inspiring to celebrate so many student successes.
Here we go!
Scott Poole
2. Parent Town Halls

5. Recent Student Successes
This is the next installment for the school year of what has become a weekly segment aimed at recognizing students for demonstrating recent improvement or achievement in academics, behavior or citizenship. At the end of each recognition, you will see the name of the nominating teacher or staff member. On a rotating basis, departments will nominate students. I meet with recognized students each week (virtually) to congratulate them.
- Jonathan Angel-Velasco has been giving 110% to his STEM Design projects. He asks for help when needed and attends office hours for extra help. Keep up the good work, Jonathan! I am very proud of your efforts! Ms. Susan Chudovan
-
Cameron Gregory has grown so much this year, despite the challenges of Distance Learning. He engages in classroom discussions, activities, and games. In his recent presentation in Cybersecurity Fundamentals, he taught our class about the dangers of various types of malware and various ways protect our computers. Ms. Catherine Casares
-
Carlos Navarro-Montanez has been a stellar student this year in Introduction to Marketing. His assignments always go well above the expectation and are impeccably done. Carlos has a creative, innovative, business mindset and a passion for marketing. He will one day be a CEO for a business! Thank you, Carlos, for being a student I can count on and for asking great questions! Ms. Jennifer Piotrowski
- I would like to recognize Neha Periyapatna for all the positive energy that she has brought to not only her peers, but also to the staff at Chantilly Academy. Neha is in the Medical Assistant class and also serves as an Academy Ambassador. She is always willing to go the extra mile to help future students understand Academy classes and it is inspiring the way she lights up talking about her future career pathway in the medical field. We really appreciate Neha! Ms. Bonnie Wannett

Mia Thompson has demonstrated a strong work ethic since the first day of classes. She is a student who sets goals for herself and as evidenced by her recent acceptance to Howard University's Direct Admit Nursing Program, she is reaching those goals. She actively participates in my virtual classes daily. I am proud of her and of her accomplishments. Ms. Cindy Holland
-
Victoria Turtiainen has recently done well on quizzes and tests in the challenging dental radiology unit. She is attentive in class and is completing all of the supportive assignments. I appreciate her diligence in preparing for the National Radiology Exam. Ms. Jennifer Howe
- For a research project, Abigail Zalles created a very professional Google Slides Deck. We recently presented the projects, Abigail did a wonderful job! A lot of students read every slide word for word, but Abigail knew the information very well and she only focused on important information. Furthermore, she expanded on the information and kept the presentation moving. Great job Abigail! Mr. Patrick Loftus
