Scottie Tales for the week of February 22

A Note From Your Principal

It was refreshing to get an actual snow day last week as it reminds me of how things used to be before the COVID pandemic. Even though things won't be "back to normal" for quite a while, having a snow day these days appreciate many things that we would have taken for granted in the past. I think it is one of the silver linings of this pandemic.

It is finally happening! Our first large group of students (PreK and Kindergarten) are set to return to in-person learning tomorrow and we could not be more excited to welcome them in. Thank to all of you who have had and continue to balance being a parent, teacher, guidance counselor, social (distanced) coordinator, on top of still being responsible for your career during these times. We are partners through this difficult time and I am hopeful this means there some sort of light at the end of this tunnel.

There is a lot of return to school information coming out, and staff is working hard to get everything ready for your students as we switch gears in the upcoming weeks. With all the transitions Mrs. Bennink, Mrs. Woo and I will be hosting Principal Town Hall events for the returning grade levels over the course of the next two weeks. This will give us an opportunity to present the most relevant information to you, as well as an opportunity for us to answer those burning questions you still might have. If you missed the PreK / K town Hall please take a minute to view the recording. All other meetings will be recorded and the link will be sent out the following day for those who were not able to attend.  Dates and times are as follows:

Grade level  Date  Time  Link

With the return to in-person learning, we had to make some changes to your teacher assignments. Your teacher assignment and designated day of in-person learning (if you are choosing to send your student back in-person) were sent out last week.

As your return date gets closer transportation information will be available through ParentVue. Please login to get the most current bus stop and route information from there. If you do not have a ParentVue account reach out to our Technology Specialist, Erica Demick (eademick@fcps.edu) for assistance.

If your student(s) are coming back to in-person instruction, the county is asking you to complete the Parent/ Guardian Health Screening Commitment form either in paper or in ParentVue prior to the return of your student(s) group. Please visit the FCPS website for more information on the Commitment Form.

As indicated in previous editions of the Scottie Tales, our bell schedule has changed this week.  Please take a few minutes to check out the Bonnie Brae website to find your grade level specific schedule.

Our next Bonnie Brae Gives Back event is being EXTENDED into this week due to the school closing last week. We will continue collecting food to support those families in our community who are struggling to stock their pantry due to the pandemic. Please consider driving by the school and donating much needed items throughout the week. At the end of the week we will take the donated food to the Food for Others pantry located in Fairfax. Take a look below at items that are in critical need. The food collection boxes are located in the vestibule.

As always, we are going to come out stronger because of each other. Stay safe, take care of yourself and take care of each other.

Best,

Principal Skerker

If we are able to hold a choir class, students will wear masks and be socially distant.
