Message from the Principal

Langley HS

Greetings Saxons,

I hope yesterday’s long awaited snow day provided much deserved rest for everyone. Our students definitely needed the break as they have been busy making Saxon Country proud in so many different arenas.

We salute senior Victor Mou. He has the distinction of being named a Russian Scholar Laureate by the American Council of Teachers of Russian. Victor, we are proud of you!

While we may be separated by physical distance, music continues to serve as one of the ties that binds our community. Over the course of the past week, Saxon Band and Choir held virtual concerts. The creativity of Mr. Martin, Dr. Lambert and their incredibly talented students is so appreciated. The choir had a special treat as two of the choirs from Cooper MS participated in the choral event. Please use the links (Band, Choir) to enjoy the outstanding musical performances.

Last Tuesday, in conjunction with Churchill Road’s and Cooper’s Parent Teacher organizations, our PTSA Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee sponsored the first installment of the book discussion series for the book Blindspot: Hidden Biases in Good People. Thank you to those who were able to attend the virtual event. It was definitely enlightening and thought provoking as we continue to honor our commitment to make Langley a safe space for all. I look forward to the next meeting and I hope more people will be able to attend.

We are busy making plans to welcome students back to the building beginning March 2. To support our freshmen and transfer students who will join us in person, an orientation will be held on Monday, February 22. Thank you to our student leaders who will serve as tour guides and Assistant Principal Robertson for making this event happen. We are so excited to meet the newest Saxons. For those attending, please be sure to reference the email previously sent to register for the event. Also, don’t forget to wear your masks!

A virtual family town hall will be held on Monday, February 22 at 7 p.m. to discuss the return to in-person learning. I hope all families who have students returning in March will be able to attend. The link for the event will be sent on Monday morning. Likewise, a virtual student town hall will be held on Wednesday, February 24 at 5 p.m. for students who will be returning to the building. This event will be accessed through Schoology. Recordings for both events will be made available.

Thank you to each of you for your ongoing support, flexibility, and patience. Your partnership is so appreciated and is a large part of what makes Langley a truly unique community.

Wishing you wellness,

3
