Did You Know… Harvard Medical Schools article Screen Time and the Brain writes, “Much of what happens on screen provides “impoverished” stimulation of the developing brain compared to reality.  Children need a diverse menu of online and offline experiences, including the chance to let their minds wander.” Here is the full article.

Class of 2021 Senior Social - Rescheduled due to Weather

New Date : Wednesday, February 24th from 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Langley is hosting a Senior Social in the school's parking lot from 3:30-4:30pm on Wednesday , February 24th. We want all of our Seniors to come to the  parking lot to socialize and catch up with each other. Masks are required. Chairs will be placed 6 feet apart, so Seniors can catch up with their friends in an outdoor socially distant space, or hang out in their cars. We recommend that they dress warmly and bring a blanket. Seniors can grab a treat when they enter and reconnect with their classmates and teachers.

Hope to see all the seniors there!

FCPS-issued Laptops

As we prepare for our Saxons to return to the building, please be sure that you are using your FCPS-issued laptop regularly. FCPS laptops are optimized to work on the school network, unlike devices you may be using at home. Additionally, many school programs and tests are required to be run on your FCPS laptop. If you have not been using your FCPS laptop regularly, please begin doing so now to prepare yourself to bring it every day you are in the building. If your laptop requires updates, drive to the nearest FCPS school and turn the laptop on in the parking lot. The laptop will connect to the FCPS network and download important updates. Please submit an IT request if you are having difficulty with your school laptops.

Online vs. In-person Instruction

To view your decision, please be sure to log-in to ParentVue on a computer (the app version on mobile devices does not show this information) and click on the Student Info tab.  Your decision can be found near the bottom of the page.

If you would like to request a change in your status, please use the link below.  ALL requests MUST be submitted through the link below.  At this time, we are unable to accommodate students moving from online to in-person instruction however, we will create a waitlist to review if/when conditions allow.  Should we be able to accommodate your request, we will follow up with you accordingly.

Virtual Parent Education Series

Substance Abuse Prevention

Tune into this three-part Parent Education Series on Substance Abuse Prevention hosted by FCPS Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist, Kelly Rankin. The series will provide three 20-minute sessions for parents about the development of the teenage brain, impact of drugs on its development, and current drug trends. Each session is offered twice; choose the time that works best for you!  With a goal of building awareness and arming parents with the knowledge and tools to identify early signs of substance use, the series will explore parents' role in prevention, including how to have an effective conversation with your child about addiction.

Click here to join a session on the following dates and times:

Part 1 - Teenage Brain: Building Connections on February 25, 2021 at noon and 7pm

Part 2 - Drugs and the Teenage Brain on March 25, 2021 at noon and 7pm

Part 3 - Drug Trends: Identifying Common Household Items and Drug Culture on April 22, 2021 at noon and 7pm Kelly Rankin serves as a resource for students and parents with questions or concerns about substance use or addiction. She can be reached at Krankin@fcps.edu or 703-287-2744.

The Langley, Cooper, and Churchill Road  PTSA/PTO Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) committees are commemorating Black History Month (February) with the 28 Days of Equity Awareness project. We invite participants to check out this list of 28 short readings, videos, and podcasts, and complete as many as possible. Our goal is to begin a conversation in which we investigate perspectives from marginalized voices. We hope you’ll join us.

During the month, on each Friday at noon, we will hold Friday Reflections lunch discussions, providing a safe space for reflection on the material. To attend, RSVP via this form: https://forms.gle/xbXWAcPXkF2ahixt9
