Hayfield Return to School Town Hall and Survey Questionnaire

Hayfield SS Administration, co-sponsored with the PTSA, cordially      invites you to a Return to School Town Hall next Thursday 2/18. Middle School Families will meet from 6-7pm. A Spanish Language Town Hall will meet at the same time, from 6-7pm. High School Families will meet from 7-8pm. To best answer your questions, please complete the google form survey by Tuesday, February 16th. 

Hayfield SS will send out the BlackBoard Collaborate Ultra (BBCU) links the day of the town hall. Thank you!

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Creative Writing Contest

The Arts & Letters Committee of The Fairfax County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. cordially invites Fairfax County Virginia high school (9th-12th grades) & middle school students (6th-9th grades) interested in creative writing and the arts to participate in their 6th annual creative writing contest. This year’s essay theme is 2020 Rewind: Moments, Movements & Monuments.  As we know, the year 2020 was full of memorable and undefinable moments that made us learn how to improvise, overcome and adapt. Submissions will be reviewed for awards of $125 for 1st place, $75 for 2nd place and $50 for 3rd place.  Also, each winner will receive a certificate of achievement.  Completed essays are due no later than February 22, 2021. FCPS  College Partnership Program- Applications are Open

The College Partnership Program (CPP) is designed to assist students who are traditionally underrepresented in college (i.e First Generation, African-American, Hispanic, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, English Learners, students with disabilities or economically disadvantaged) in exploring, applying and enrolling in college. In accordance with FCPS’ goal to eliminate gaps in opportunity, access and achievement for all students, CPP focuses on academic advising, college visits, parent engagement and preparation beyond high school.

The application window is now open. Additional information on the program and the application process can be obtained through the Schoology Group: Temporary College Partnership Program using the code D964-Q9WR-Q8P3S.  Applications are due March 19, 2021.  

Hayfield Virtual Calming Room

We officially have our own virtual nest for Hawks to visit when they need to relax and recharge. The Hayfield Calming Room has links to online puzzles, coloring pages, animal webcams at Zoos across the United States, international museum tours, meditation and movement videos, mental health resources, and much more. Edison High School’s 11th Annual HBCU Fair (HS)

Edison’s Annual HBCU Fair will be held on Monday, February 22, from 9 a.m. -3:30 p.m. This year the fair will be held virtually. Colleges are still signing up, and you can reference the following site for a running list of participants and more information: https://sites.google.com/fcpsschools.net/ehshbcu2021/home.

Please note, you must be logged on to your FCPS Google Account to access the site. Each college will present for 10 minutes. After the college presentation, students will have an opportunity to move to a supervised link to ask questions and speak with the college representative. 

World Languages Credit Exam

The 2021 Credit Exam for World Languages will take place in March of 2021.  Students who take the credit exam have the opportunity to earn up to three (3) credits, based on demonstrated proficiency.

Thirty (30) languages will be assessed via the FCPS Credit Exam.  In order to offer the test in all languages while maintaining a safe testing environment, some languages will be tested online and some will be tested in person.

  • These languages will be tested online between March 2, 2021 and March 10, 2021:  Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
  • These languages will be tested in person on March 13, 2021 and March 20, 2021 (Saturdays):  Amharic, ASL, Bengali, Farsi, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Nepali, Pashto, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Somali, Tagalog, Tamil, Telugu, Tigrinya, Turkish, Twi, Urdu and Vietnamese.

Registration is now open and closes at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2021.  All students must register for the exam through their school counselor by February 26, 2021
