Principal's Message - 2/13/21

Stone MS

Good Afternoon Parents and Families,

It was another successful week made so much better by seeing so many smiling faces (albeit behind masks) during our events this week. Thank you to all who came and picked up their second semester supplies on Monday. We hosted our first SCA/PTA event, “Our Love Shines Bright,” and again it was so nice to see so many of our students and families. Thank you for your generous donations to local food pantries, as well as the cards and thoughtful messages you sent to our staff. I want to thank our PTA and all of our amazing volunteers for their hard work to make this event come together. You can find a snapshot of the event in this video here

We also enjoyed meeting our Rising 7th grade students and families during our Curriculum Night event. Below you will find more information on how you can access presentations and other important information.

Below are our upcoming dates and events. A reminder that there is No School on Monday, and we begin a new bell schedule on Tuesday. I  look forward to “seeing” you for our second town hall on Thursday of this week. In the meantime, please continue to refer to our website for any information related to return to school. Enjoy the long weekend.

Stay safe, healthy and warm,

Meredith Norris, Principal

Portrait of a Panther

Portrait of a Panther - Week of February 8

It was so wonderful getting into classrooms this week, particularly our Art and Theatre classes. Students were engaged, sharing their work, turning their cameras and mics on. We have such talented students and staff! Check out this week’s Portrait of a Panther winners here: https://stonems.fcps.edu/features/portrait-panther-week-february-8

New Bell Schedule Reminder (Beginning Tuesday, February 16)

FCPS and Stone MS will implement a new bell schedule on Tuesday, February 16 due to social distancing requirements which limit capacity on school buses. The bell schedule change will apply to both in-person instruction as well as students who are participating in full-time virtual instruction. The most notable change is the lunch times. Teachers reviewed these changes with your child during Panther Block this week. Students can also find a visual reminder in the Schoology Student All course.

Virtual Curriculum Night Resources

Thank you to those parents who attended our Curriculum Night on Wednesday.  All information shared at the meeting and recordings can be found here.  We look forward to welcoming your children to the Stone community!   Our school counselors are continuing the academic advising process with all students.  Due dates for course selection are March 5 for Rising 7th graders and March 12 for Rising 8th graders.  If you have any questions regarding this information or course selections, please email TLStubblefie@fcps.edu.

Chrome

Chrome Sync for Students

As part of FCPS’s ongoing effort to support student use of technology, Chrome Sync and the ability to save passwords will be available as an option starting on February 18th.  Students are not required to use Chrome Sync and save passwords, but may choose to them in order to:

  • reduce their log-in time.
  • access bookmarks and extensions across devices.

Chrome will remember and offer saved passwords when students are logging into different instructional applications. Chrome will also make bookmarks and extensions available on any device in which the student logs into Chrome and turns on Sync.

If your student would like to use Chrome Sync and save passwords, support resources are available on the FCPS website.  If your child is logging into Chrome now, they may need to log out of Chrome and log back in to see the new features.
