Message from the Principal

Langley HS

Greetings Saxons,

I hope this week has been a good one for everyone. While we continue to deal with cold winter weather, we are basking in the glow of victory in Saxon Country. Our students continue to shine on the court, stage, pool and in club competition. Let’s celebrate!!

A shout out to our Langley Forensics team which took second place in Wednesday’s VHSL Regional tournament. They move on to the Super Regional tournament on Feb. 24. We wish them the best of luck!

Last Saturday, Langley’s Science Bowl team (like quizbowl, but all STEM questions) finished 2nd in the Virginia Science Bowl. Congratulations to Kwanwoo Park, Joshua Jones, Samantha Ritchie, and Ava Tang – Their knowledge and composure under pressure is truly AMAZING!

Congratulations to the Langley Science Olympiad team in their recent Regional Tournament. They finished 3rd overall, which qualifies them  for States! Many individual event awards were won. Way to go, team!

Congrats to all students who participated in All-District Band! As with many events this year, judging was done virtually with students submitting blind audition recordings for judging. Langley was well represented with a record 29 LHS students selected for the bands!

Symphonic Band: Jack Bateman, Melanie Chuh,* Viraj Ganguli, Caroline Healy, Parker Hoang, Rachel Huang, Kevin Lee, Andrew Leone, Ben Leone, Anand Menon, Leah Miller, Emma Philips, Lucas Porter, Shaan Rashid, John Rieling, Tommy Worden, Jimmy Yeum, Amanda Yo,* Daniel Yo, Jason Zhang, Merik Zhang and Elaine Zou.

Wind Ensemble: Justin Bahr,* Beth Johnston,* Abby Kaufman, Will Trosch,* Muriel Wallach,* Tim Wang* and Austin Zhang.*

The eight students with the asterisks are eligible to audition for All-Virginia Band.

Fifty-five seniors in Fairfax County Public Schools are among a group of more than 4,500 candidates in the 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The candidates were selected from nearly 3.6 million students expected to graduate from U.S. high schools in 2021.

Inclusion in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program is one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating high school seniors. Scholars are selected based on superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character, and involvement in community and school activities.

Congratulations to the following Saxons on earning this distinguished honor:  Stephen K. Draughn, Otto R. Janke, Joshua W. Jones, Tianyi Wu, and Stephanie Zhang

We are so proud of our outstanding wresting team. In addition to individual champs, the team finished fourth in the region.

Congratulations to our Boys’ Langley Swim and Dive on winning the regional championship!

In preparation to welcome students back to in-person learning, a town hall will be held on Monday, February 22 at 7 p.m. to discuss protocols which will be in place in the building. Further information will be shared next week.

As we celebrate Valentine’s Day on Sunday, may we all take a moment to show gratitude for our loved ones. For me, one of the many lessons I have learned during the pandemic is to be thankful for my family. To have people love and appreciate you is truly a blessing.

Wishing you wellness,
