A Message from Ms. Jankovich

Dear Sangster Families –

Due to the many changes we have had regarding return-to-learn plans, Mondays have become a source of great confusion. We have spent time this week revisiting teacher planning dates and factoring in time lost with students due to the variety of things happening on Mondays, including holidays. Please remember our new bell schedule, 9:45AM – 4:15PM, begins Tuesday, February 16th.  Next week you will receive notification as to what preference you have selected for your child/children (in-person or virtual), if in-person, what days of the week they will be returning, and what their transportation will be.  Please remember, in order for a student to return to the building, you MUST complete the Parent/Guardian Health Screening Commitment form. Please contact Mrs. Hoelscher in the front office with questions.

Return to Learn Aj letter 2-11-21

Here are just a few reminders/updates for students returning to the building. More will be covered during the Parent Information Nights, which will also be recorded and shared:

  • Lunch:  All students will be eating lunch in the classroom. Students can bring their lunch from home OR get a free bagged lunch from the cafeteria. Teachers will take a count each morning of who needs a bagged lunch. Students will be able to take their masks off during lunch but will need to remain in their seats.
  • Recess:  Large, structural playground equipment is currently off-limits at recess.  Staff will encourage students to play games or activities that minimize close physical contact and allow for social distancing.   Everyone will wear masks at all times because occasional close contact is expected during play.  10 ft. distance is to be maintained during physical activity.
  • Materials: Students should plan to bring whatever they need in their backpacks each day. This includes their fully charged laptops and lunches (if they are bringing from home). Your child’s teacher will be reaching out if there are any specific supplies they want students to bring on the days they are in-person.
  • Parents/Visitors in the Building: Parents/Visitors will not be permitted in the school building without a prior appointment.  There will be a designated space outside of the Main Doors where parents can wait for/with their child before and after school. We know this will be an adjustment, but it’s for the safety of all.  When dropping-off or picking-up students during school hours, parents will wait for their child in the foyer area (directions of what to do will be posted).
  • Temperature Checks have been discontinued:  Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will no longer conduct daily temperature checks for students, staff and visitors, both at the main doors or on the buses.

While all of this information is essential to know, it goes without saying that the emotional well-being of our students is top priority.  Please continue to reach out to your child’s teacher or any member of our amazing clinical staff if you have questions or concerns about the return to learn.  We are committed welcoming our students back into our schools in a safe and calm manner.  Thank you for all you do!

See you at Valentine Bingo!

If you DO NOT plan to send your child to Sangster ES to have their picture taken but want their photo in the Yearbook as part of their class picture, first create a Shutterfly account (if you haven’t already). Then access this link where you will be directed to a Google Sign Up form to share what email is associated with your Shutterfly account. From there, Ms. Mishael, our Yearbook Chair, can grant you access to share your child’s headshot (or close-up picture) on our Sangster Shutterfly Share Site. Please include your child’s first and last name, grade level, homeroom teacher, and Picture Day Portrait.

Safety Protocols on Picture Day

Lifetouch has developed COVID procedures for Picture Day: MyLifetouch.com COVID Procedures

Sangster safety protocols for Virtual School Picture Days are as follows:

  • All parents must adhere to the time they selected to have their child's picture taken.
  • Students should be dropped off in the bus loop, near the main doors of the school, 5-10 minutes prior to their scheduled time. Once dropped off, parents should then drive around to the Kiss-n-Ride lane (near the playground area) where their child will meet them.
  • All students must wear a face covering.  Masks will be removed when they have their picture taken, but social distancing will be in place.
  • Sangster staff will be present throughout the day to help students exit/enter their cars, while waiting in line to have their picture taken, and in the gym, alongside the Lifetouch staff.
  • If your child is not feeling well on Picture Day or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please keep them home.

Interest Meeting

for 6th Graders

March 1

Attention 6th Grade Families:
There will be a bus patrol interest meeting in the afternoon of Monday, March 1 for any 6th graders interested in being a patrol for the duration of the school year. The meeting will be held in Google Meet using this link.  Please note, the link will not be active until the time of the meeting. To access the meeting, your student's fcpsschools.net Google account is required.

The role of the patrols will be slightly different this year, however, the importance of modeling fabulous Falcon behavior will remain at the top of the requirements! Students will be receiving additional information about the meeting from Ms. Tuebner and Ms. Sands in the upcoming weeks. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Agner at caagner@fcps.edu .

Positivity Project

Week of February 11

Humility

This week’s character strength is Humility. You show this strength when you do not seek the spotlight and let your actions speak for themselves. Humble people have an accurate (not underestimated) sense of their abilities and achievements. They hold the capacity to acknowledge their mistakes and limitations, and are open to advice and new ideas. They do not show off their possessions or accomplishments. Developing humility is associated with positive developmental outcomes in individuals. It allows a person to honestly reflect on their abilities and acknowledge how and where they can improve. Humility opens them up to new ideas, advice, and (consequently) abilities that pride, arrogance, or pretentiousness often block. Therefore, humility makes them desired members of a team.
