Having students join us on Mondays for targeted support has brought so much joy back into the building!
Dear Woodburn Families,
We are gearing up for the return to in-person learning. It is going to be wonderful to have students back in the building! In the coming weeks we will be sharing important information with families about student cohorts, bus routes, health forms, and more. All of this information will be sent through our eNotify system. Please reach out to the main office if you do not receive email and text messages from this school platform.
We hope you enjoy Presidents' Day weekend and look forward to seeing our wildcats on Tuesday. Remember! Our day will run from 9:45-4:15pm starting next week.
Sincerely,
Katy and Bridget

Woodburn Welcomes Mr. Sorensen!
Hello Woodburn Community! My name is Eric Sorensen, or as many of the kids may know me, “Ryker’s Dad.” When the call went out for a Classroom Monitor, I didn’t know exactly what it was, but I thought, “I like kids, the school needs help, I have a flexible schedule. I’m in.” When I am not at school, I am a professional triathlon coach. I also compete in all those sports which keeps me moving, for sure. In between, I help coach basketball, soccer and swimming for my boys and generally nerd-out over Harry Potter, MCU and Star Wars. I am really looking forward to supporting Woodburn’s classrooms and working with the kids!
Thank you for joining us this past Tuesday for our Return to School Town Hall meeting. Our presentation can be found here for any families that missed the meeting. It is also located on our Woodburn school website. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you have.
Our teachers require additional time to prepare and plan for the transition to in-person learning. We recently learned that additional days have been provided for our staff. The dates below indicate what days your child will participate in asynchronous (independent) learning. On these days your child will log into their BBCU link from 9:45-10:15 for morning meeting. Attendance will be taken and expectations for the day will be explained.
Gr. 1 and 2: March 1, 4, 5, 8
Gr. 3-6: March 8, 11, 12, 15
As many students return to in-person instruction, parents and caregivers will be asked to acknowledge a Health Screening Commitment form before their student(s) re-enter school buildings. This document confirms that a parent, caregiver, or guardian will complete a daily health screening and will keep their students home when they are ill.
The Health Commitment form can be submitted electronically through ParentVUE (PVUE) or via hard copy. Please contact your child’s school to have a hard copy sent to you.
The Scholastic Book Fair is back! While the fair will be exclusively held online this year, we still plan on making it a fun and joyous experience for our kids. Our customized Woodburn Book Fair homepage features:
- A fully Virtual Fair so you and your kids can experience the magic of the school shopping experience. Browse over 200 titles by grade, meet popular authors, and discover the comfort and joy of our Fair
- Direct access to over 6,000 additional titles with family-friendly prices, at the Scholastic online store
Every dollar you spend will benefit our school directly (25% back in rewards!)
Save these dates and view our school’s fair site:

Raise a Reader - We need volunteer readers |
We are looking for parent volunteers to assist in reading with their child's class at our Raise a Reader event on March 2. Our wonderful librarian, Mary Lockwood Gokcen, has selected a book for each class which will be distributed prior to the event with an extra copy for the volunteer reader. We hope to foster discussion about the selected books along with a lifetime love of reading.
We expect that the event will take place in grades K-2nd grades between 10:30 -11:30 and for grades 3-6 between 3:00-4:00 on March 2nd. Please let Linnea Kessler-Gowell know if you would be interested in volunteering by emailing her at linneakg@gmail.com.
