Happy Friday, GBE Families!
PTA Meeting on Tuesday & Back-to-School Forum on Thursday
Our February meeting will be this Tuesday (2/9) at 6:30. We will be virtual, as always! The first 30 minutes will be dedicated to PTA business and will be followed by an inclusion discussion with Mr. Pietzman and Mrs. Showker! A link for the meeting will be on our PTA website: gbepta.org
Then, Thursday, Mr. Pietzman will host another virtual forum for our GBE Community to discuss the current school reopening plans!
Old pots & pans?!
If you’ve got some laying around, please consider donating toward the forthcoming GBE Music Wall!
Girl Scouts!
Our local Girl Scout Membership Specialist, Lauren Bauer, is organizing two Start Up Troops: a Daisy K/1st (starting 2/10) & a Brownie 2nd/3rd (starting 2/17)! Do you have a student who’d love to be involved? (I can tell you first-hand how much my own daughter enjoys her troop!)
Sign up (free!) at bit.ly/girlscouts-566 or visit gbepta.org/scouts for more information.
Do you shop at Harris Teeter?
If so, please make sure to link your VIC card to GBE!!
Harris Teeter’s Together In Education program gives GBE a chance to earn funds when you link your VIC card and shop with Harris Teeter brands. Harris Teeter has donated over $30 million to Together In Education schools since 1998!
When you shop Harris Teeter brands, a percentage of your purchase is donated to the school that your VIC card is linked to. There are NO LIMITS to how much a school can earn.
You can link your card to GBE on the Harris Teeter Together in Education website!

Thomas Jefferson High School STEM Talk!
The PTSA Diversity Committee of the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology will hold its second Diversity in STEM Talk in February! This series is especially for elementary and middle school students in grades 4-8.
Join us Monday, February 8, at 6 p.m. to hear from Anthony Nunez, CEO INF Robotics Inc. and Carla Rodriguez, Head of Operations INF Robotics Inc. Mr. Nunez is a published author in robotics, holds two robotics patents and has over a decade of experience building all forms of land, air and water robots in addition to working for DARPA Autonomous Vehicles programs, where he worked on the early versions of autonomous cars.
Ms. Rodriguez has worked as Vice President of Infamous Robotics where she grew the company's curriculum offerings and expanded on key partnerships with the Smithsonian, the U.S. State Department and others. Ms. Rodriguez is a key architect of the Robotics Inventor curriculum and has experience building everything from snake robots to autonomous robots for healthcare. She has been a key mentor for children building their first robot for years, helping them get over roadblocks and build confidence around themselves and STEM.
Some questions we'll explore are:
- What sparked their interest in STEM?
- What is happening in the field of robotics?
- How are robotics and technology used in health care?
