Churchill Families,

On Tuesday February 2, Dr. Brabrand shared an updated Return to School timeline. We want to assure you we have clear plans to adhere to the health and safety mitigation strategies the CDC says will help to keep school transmission rates low. We have included some specific information below to support you and your children in the weeks to come.

Thank you for being our partners throughout the past year. We are thankful for the routines you have set to ensure students are connected daily and the collaboration between home and school as we transform a challenging year into the best it can be for every one of our children.

Sincerely,

Cherith Pierson and Jen Niccolls

New Bell Schedule

Based on this Return to School Timeline, our new Bell Schedule will begin for all students on February 16th. Classes will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m.

Churchill Community Conversation on Return to School for Parents

We will be having a Return to School Community Conversation on Wednesday, February 10 from 6 - 7 p.m. to present information and answer questions related to those students who are returning to school.

Please register here by 3:30 p.m. February 10 to receive a link the day of the meeting.

Class Changes and Days of Week

Kindergarten classes were adjusted to reflect families' virtual/in-person preferences in November. Thus, those classes will remain as they are when Kindergarten (Group 5) returns for in-person learning. We will be communicating the remaining class changes/days of week by group beginning with grades 1 and 2 the week of February 8th.

black history month

Black History Month

Black History Month began to be celebrated in 1915 when historian Carter G. Woodson and others began researching and promoting the achievements of Black Americans and other peoples of African descent. Since 1976 all presidents have designated the month of February as Black History Month.

Classroom Activities

Our teachers will celebrate African American accomplishments, milestones, and contributions to our nation’s history through special read-alouds, quotes of the day and assignments focusing on contributions of Black Americans.

28 Days of Equity Awareness

This month the Churchill Road PTA, Cooper PTO, and Langley PTSA Diversity and Equity Committees are commemorating Black History Month with the 28 Days of Equity Awareness Project. We invite you to check out our list of 28 short readings, videos, and podcasts and complete as many as possible. Each Friday this month, we'll hold virtual Friday Reflections lunch discussions, providing a safe place for reflection. Lunch RSVP

And save the date for our Book Club meeting on February 16 (at 7:30 p.m.), where we'll discuss the first 7 chapters of the book Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People. Book Club Signup
