A Message from Ms. Jankovich

Dear Sangster Families –

Hopefully you are all staying warm, as our weather is turning colder. Snow is in the forecast for Sunday into Monday, so be sure and stay tuned for any updates/changes to our Monday virtual schedule.  As of now we are moving forward with Picture Day on Monday, February 1st. Should anything change, we will post that change on our website and I will send out a message to the community as well.  I, for one, certainly hope our students (and staff) get to experience at least one big snow accumulation at some point this year.

In the middle of a potential snow storm and staff members getting vaccinated (which we are so excited about), we are continuing to prepare the building and plan for the return of our in-person students.  I will be hosting grade-level specific Parent Information Nights, starting with K-2, to go over updated safety protocols, arrival/dismissal procedures, and to answer any questions you may have. Dates and links will be coming out next week in News You Choose.  Also, within the next few weeks, a Sangster staff member will be reaching out to all parents of in-person students to review lunch (packing or cafeteria pick-up) and transportation plans.

Dr. Brabrand will be sharing FCPS’ plan for the Return-to-Learn at the School Board Work Session on February 2nd.  It will be during this meeting that Dr. Brabrand, and other members of the Leadership Team, will propose the following dates for bringing our students back into the building. Sangster’s new bell schedule of 9:45AM – 4:15PM will begin for all students, both virtual and in-person, on Tuesday, February 16th.  Individual teacher/class schedules will be communicated soon.

Alternative to Picture Day -  Submit photo of your student

If you DO NOT plan to send your child to Sangster ES to have their picture taken but want their photo in the Yearbook as part of their class picture, first create a Shutterfly account (if you haven’t already). Then access this link where you will be directed to a Google Sign Up form to share what email is associated with your Shutterfly account. From there, Ms. Mishael, our Yearbook Chair, can grant you access to share your child’s headshot (or close-up picture) on our Sangster Shutterfly Share Site. Please include your child’s first and last name, grade level, homeroom teacher, and Picture Day Portrait.

Safety Protocols on Picture Day

Lifetouch has developed COVID procedures for Picture Day: MyLifetouch.com COVID Procedures

Sangster safety protocols for Virtual School Picture Days are as follows:

  • All parents must adhere to the time they selected to have their child's picture taken.
  • Students should be dropped off in the bus loop, near the main doors of the school, 5-10 minutes prior to their scheduled time. Once dropped off, parents should then drive around to the Kiss-n-Ride lane (near the playground area) where their child will meet them.
  • All students must wear a face covering.  Masks will be removed when they have their picture taken, but social distancing will be in place.
  • Sangster staff will be present throughout the day to help students exit/enter their cars, while waiting in line to have their picture taken, and in the gym, alongside the Lifetouch staff.
  • If your child is not feeling well on Picture Day or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please keep them home.

  • The Parent/Guardian Health Screening Commitment Form and Emergency Care Form  may be submitted electronically via 24-7 Learning/ParentVue using the weCare@school link, or scanned and emailed to Marian Hoelscher at MTHoelscher@fcps.edu.

FCPS SR&R Parent Acknowledgement Form - This link is specific to Sangster ES students. Do not submit it for any student(s) who do not attend Sangster.

Progress Reports - Go Paperless

The “Go Paperless” option is available to parent(s)/guardian(s) to receive electronic progress reports for their students. To go paperless, parents/guardians need to log into SIS/ParentVUE, go to “My Account”, and select "Go Paperless".  To prevent mailing of hardcopy progress reports, all parents/guardians who live with the student, and share the same address, must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the “Go Paperless” option. The “Go Paperless” option will apply to all their associated students, no matter what school level.

If you do not have a ParentVue account, please contact our student registrar Marian Hoelscher at mthoelscher@fcps.edu

For more information: SIS/ParentVue

Attendance Update - Unexcused Absences

When parents report that their student(s) will be absent due to a family trip or vacation, the absence is considered "unexcused locally".  The attendance code UNL will appear in your student's attendance record.

During January and February, these sites will also be distributing fresh, local fruits and vegetables. The item will vary each week, and will be available on the following dates:

Be sure to stand a minimum of 6 feet apart from others and practice regular hand washing, including prior to leaving a residence to pick-up meals, upon returning home, and before consuming food.
