1.  From the Principal's Desk

Dear Members of the Chantilly HS Community:

Happy Friday. While the School Board and Division leaders have the final say, my sense is that the revised dates for the return of in-person students are now clear and unlikely to change. This means that 9th and 10th graders that chose in-person instruction will be returning to CHS on March 2nd and 10th and 11th graders will return on March 9th. . These return dates are still a month away, but please be aware that some academic programs and numerous co-curricular groups will be reopening over the next few weeks. For example, starting this week we were glad to invite back almost 40 students that face special challenges due to the pandemic and plan to increase this number in coming weeks. Cosmotology 2, Firefighting and category B special ed students will return on February 16th. FCPS leaders also decided that high school activities including VHSL sports, band, orchestra, choir, standard publications, and yearbook were allowed to start meeting on January 26th . Our Dance team started meeting this week and will be meeting Mondays and Wednesdays going forward. Our  performing arts department is looking forward to bringing small groups of students into the building after school for their co-curricular courses and rehearsals. They will be solidifying this plan over the next week to ensure a safe return for their students beginning the week of February 8th. There is a chance that our band will be delayed longer as they are still waiting for the delivery of personal protective equipment specific to brass and woodwind instruments. I know that many families and staff members are anxious to reopen as many academic and extracurricular activities as soon as possible. Following county guidance, I pledge to reopen applicable programs as soon as we can do so in a manner that maximizes the health and safety of students and staff.

Have a good weekend,

Scott

6.  Recent Student Successes

This is the next installment for the school year of what has become a weekly segment aimed at recognizing students for demonstrating recent improvement or achievement in academics, behavior or citizenship. At the end of each recognition, you will see the name of the nominating teacher or staff member. On a rotating basis, departments will nominate students.  I meet with recognized students each week (virtually) to congratulate them.

  • I want to give a shout out to Alejandro Aliste who has made every effort over the past few weeks to self-advocate for himself and complete any outstanding assignments for his classes. Distance learning has been difficult; however, he has really thought about being engaged and completing the work. I am so happy and so proud of him. Keep up the great work Alejandro. You can do this!!! Ms. Michelle Pringle
  • Thea Brown Hargrove is a kind and compassionate student. She actively contributes during class and helps the group as a whole. She is a fantastic addition to the choir department. Thank you! Mr. Evan Ayars
  • Nishad Nalawade is doing fantastic work in art class. Although Nishad is new to FCPS, he is doing a great job with online learning. Nishad is a creative thinker and a pleasure to have in class. Ms. Terilynn Thomas
  • Mira Padayachee always puts in 100% of her effort in all of her assignments and turns it in on time. She is hard working and creative. Pleasure to have in class! Ms. Christine Choi
  • As a senior, Jana (Jay) Ragab just moved to CHS in October from Egypt. She has done an excellent job of getting caught up and staying motivated. I am so proud to be her school counselor. Keep up the great work Jay!! Ms. Becky Clonts
  • Alexandra Reaves, Alexandra Nesmith, Aaliyah Wilkes, and Emera Cooper did an amazing job leading the Black Student Association (BSA) Return College Panel on Monday, January 11th. They were professional, exhibited fantastic leadership skills, and overall, they were just fabulous. The BSA is proud to have them as leaders in our community, uplifting and encouraging their peers! Mr. Dwayne Peyton
  • I am impressed with Mahathi Vegesna’s dedication to learning and her efforts this quarter to organize herself and complete schoolwork. Like many students, she wishes she was attending school in-person and Mahathi has embraced opportunities to stay connected and on top of her learning. I know she will keep working hard for the rest of this school year. Well done, Mahathi! Ms. Alice Robertson
