Dear Stenwood Families,
This has been an eventful week for the nation and we hope you had the opportunity to talk with your child about MLK Day and Inauguration Day. In FCPS news, Dr. Brabrand shared an update last evening with the School Board on the phase in plans. The important information to note is:
- New proposed phase-in dates are shared in the chart below.
- Stenwood’s new bell schedule, 9am - 3:30pm, is scheduled to take effect on February 16th. Teachers will send home an individualized schedule prior to this time, so your child would follow this schedule virtually until their group’s phase in.
While these plans won’t be solidified until the February 2nd School Board Meeting, we wanted you to have this information on your radar. We will communicate with grade level parents directly after timelines are confirmed, so please look for eNotify messages with invitations to grade level specific Parent Coffees and surveys. We will continue to keep you informed as soon as we have information.
Please plan on making your way through the Kiss N Ride loop on Monday to pick up your child’s next packet of learning materials. Monday is a student holiday, so we will have the opportunity to see you (and hopefully your child!) in the morning between 8:30 and 10:00am OR in the afternoon from 3:00 to 4:30pm. More information below!

Student Learning Materials Distribution
Monday, January 25th
We will be doing our next round of distribution on Monday, January 25th. We know there is the possibility of some inclement weather heading our way. We will send out communication early Monday morning should we need to postpone distribution. We will be distributing materials in two blocks:
Monday, Jan 25th from 8:30 - 10:00AM
Monday, Jan 25th from 3:00 - 4:30PM
During last distribution, we sent home signs with our In Person primary grade students to use for Kiss N Ride. If you have one of those, please hold it up when you come through to help speed up the process. We also will be trying a new system to hopefully help alleviate congestion on Carnegie, so please pay attention to any signs or directions from staff that you see.
Mrs. Riley’s Read Alouds - New Look!
Mrs. Riley has reorganized her read alouds on Schoology to hopefully make it easier for students to navigate. There are tons of picture books if you are looking for a good read aloud. They all can be found on the All Students Schoology site. Mrs. Riley posts one new book each week (usually on Mondays). She also has started the Battle Books Lions and Liars for upper grade students.

Positivity Project: Supporting Others When They Struggle
|
|
This week, we are working on ONE of the FIVE overarching components of the Positivity Project. Supporting others when they struggle is an important test of our character every single day.
“We rise by lifting others.”
~Robert Ingersoll
|
When you put others first, you look to comfort people in the small, day-to day disappointments whether they are friends, classmates, acquaintances, family, even rivals.
Think of a time you went through something difficult and someone encouraged you. How can you pass on that act of kindness this week?
Summer Enrichment: Tech Adventure Camp
The Career and Technical Education (CTE) office is once again planning an engaging summer enrichment program for students! For our current 2nd to 6th grade students, FCPS is offering Tech Adventure Camp. Please see the flyer below for details.

For this Monday ONLY, curbside pickup/drop off will be during Student Packet Pickup, 8:30-10:00am AND 3:00-4:30pm
Stingers can now go to Destiny Discover, the library catalog, and put books on hold!
Please note that the catalog may give you a pop-up message saying the book is ready – do not believe it! Only come to the school AFTER you receive an email from us letting you know the items are ready and what time you’ll be able to pick them up. Be sure to mark your calendar because after one week, the books will be returned to the library so other students may enjoy them.
Click here for directions on how to put books on hold.
Need to return books? You may return library books on Mondays from 2:30-3:30PM and Thursdays from 3:45-4:30PM. Drop off location will be in the Kiss-n-Ride loop in the back of the school. As always, please contact Mrs. Cole, our librarian, if you have any questions.
