Message from the Principal

Langley HS

Greetings Saxons,

We have much to celebrate this week in Saxon Country. Congratulations to our Model UN. They received the award for Outstanding Large Team Delegation at last Saturday’s competition held at Chantilly High School. A number of students won individual competitions. Also, our winter sports teams continue to do well in competition. We are so proud of our students’ high level of engagement and success.

Earlier this year, students and families had the opportunity to nominate staff members for recognition as part of the FCPS Honors awards program. We had a number of responses submitted. I am pleased to share with you our school winners and quotes which were submitted by community members. Congratulations to our winners. Their dedication and service to Saxon Country is greatly appreciated.

Outstanding Teacher

1
Tricia Poythress – Marketing Education Teacher (CTE Department)

We’ve never researched a boring topic. She also is super sweet and understanding and will always help students with their specific needs. Mrs. Poythress has created a comfortable working environment for me and others and I know I can always go to her if I need help with anything, even if it’s not school related! Mrs. Poythress has been my rock and my inspiration for working so hard during virtual learning. She created “out of the box” lessons when switching to online learning.

Outstanding Professional Employee

3
Lindsey Fisher - “School Based Technology Specialist” (SBTS)

Lindsey came into Langley and immediately saw a need for support in technology training and use, and encouragement for teachers to try new teaching methods. Her enthusiasm for improving the quality of instruction is contagious. She is innovative, creative, intuitive, thoughtful, and patient. She has significantly raised the level of technology instruction in the Langley classrooms in a single year. She is a ROCK STAR!!! She has had an extraordinary impact.  She is incredible at her job.

Outstanding Operational Employee

Kwok Chan (Food Services)

Mr. Chan works really hard to serve food out for everyone. He is very kind when I walk in and is always great to talk to. He is the nice man behind the lunch line that used to serve me spicy chicken sandwiches every day. He was always very enthusiastic and really loved serving all of the students their spicy chicken.

On Monday, our country will pause to remember the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As you are aware, this holiday is an opportunity for us to engage in community service. To assist with this effort, Ms. Shomaker has provided service opportunities information for students in Schoology.

During the three day weekend, may we find time to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy; his message of love and respect is desperately needed in our country at this time.

Wishing you wellness and blessings,
