Franklin MS Weekly Update - January 15

Franklin Families and Students,

As I typed this message earlier this morning, the view out of the window in my office afforded me the opportunity to see a beautiful sunrise come up over our school. Even in these challenging times, there are moments of joy and beauty that can recharge our soul and spirit.

Thank you to all of the families who joined us at the Equity Town Hall on Wednesday evening. We were thrilled to be joined by our Sully District School Board member, Mrs. Stella Pekarsky. It was an excellent opportunity for us to listen and learn. If you were unable to join us or have additional thoughts to share, you can do so by clicking here.

Please take a few minutes with your student to review the schedule for next week. The details can be found below. It is the last week of the 2nd quarter and we want everyone to finish strong.

If there is anything I can do to support your family, do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at dpwright@fcps.edu. Thank you for all of your efforts to support your student this year. The entire Franklin MS staff is very grateful.

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright

Principal

Service Learning to Honor the Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Even during COVID-19, students are finding incredible ways to serve their communities either virtually or while practicing social distancing and following CDC guidelines. The upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday weekend is a great opportunity to connect students with impactful service opportunities while also teaching students about the life and legacy of Dr. King.

In partnership with FCPS and Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS), Volunteer Fairfax will begin offering virtual, family-friendly service learning activities on January 16.

To learn more about the MLK, Jr., Weekend of Service and the specific service activities, visit Volunteer Fairfax’s website for more information.

Academic Advising Information

During the next several weeks, students will begin working with their families and counselors to select classes for next year. This is intended to be a collaborative process and we encourage you to reach out to a member of our Student Services team at any time during the process. Students will receive instructions from their counselors about deadlines for course selection for the 2021-22 school year. For additional information, please review the information found here, visit the Online Course Catalog or feel free to reach out to your student’s counselor. Thank you for your support during this important process for our students.
