SCA Box Tops

Dear Hunt Valley Families and Staff,

There is a new digital way to turn in your Box Tops. First, you will have to download the Box Top app to your phone. Next, you will have to fill in the information requested. Lastly, you will have to scan your receipt for the box tops near the barcode. Simple enough you are all done. Detailed instructions are attached here at this link:

https://huntvalleyes.fcps.edu/activities/student-council

You are still allowed to turn the Box Tops in person if you prefer.

We also want to thank our Hunt Valley community for all the mask donations.  We received 174 masks and are researching where we will donate them to.

Thank you for all your support.

The SCA Treasurer

West Springfield Little League

West Springfield Little League has extended registration for budding baseball players ages 5 - 8 until at least the end of January.  WSLL welcomes both girls and boys to join the league and enjoy outdoor fun this spring.  Space remains available in machine pitch and t-ball divisions of play.  In light of the ongoing pandemic, the league has adopted several safety protocols to help minimize risks to players and families.  You may register your child by visiting www.wsllbaseball.net.  If you have any questions, you may reach out to league president (and Hunt Valley parent) Mike Warbel at mwarbel@gmail.com.

Reminder for Parents/Guardians about SIS ParentVUE

This year more than ever, SIS ParentVUE (PVUE) is an essential tool for parents/guardians to keep up with their student’s attendance, progress report cards, and more. This will be the first quarter that we have offered a PDF version of the progress report and ES parents/guardians now have the option to “Go Paperless” for all report cards and progress reports. We want to start establishing the PVUE habit early with ES school parents/guardians. At the end of last school year, we reached a high of 80% of FCPS students with at least one parent/guardian with a PVUE account. We want to keep those account numbers and the usage going up so we can rely on it as a communication tool with parents/guardians.

Please access PVUE periodically to check in on your student(s) attendance and to view progress reports at the end of each quarter.  If you have not yet created a PVUE account, please do so by reaching out to the school SIA to provide an activation code. Details on what can be found in PVUE and how to activate a new PVUE account using your activation code can be found here - Student Information System - SIS Parent Account Overview

Tech Support for Parents and Students

To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, FCPS has launched a new Parent Technology Help Desk. The help desk can be reached at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS) and will be answered by staff members between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week.

Parents or guardians can call this number for basic tech support with parent accounts, help with FCPS student devices and technical assistance with other FCPS applications. If help desk staff members are unable to solve the issue, they will enter a support ticket on behalf of the parent/guardian to escalate the issue to the appropriate FCPS team. Parents who need help in a language other than English can inform the help desk staff when they call of their preferred language, and an interpreter will join in on the call.

FCPS has also set up Parent and Student Technology Support portal at https://itweb.fcps.edu/itsupport/ to allow older students and parents/guardians to request technology help directly. When a support request ticket is entered through the portal, it is auto-routed to the TSSpec at the appropriate site to expedite service.

Overdue book notices will be printed later this month.  Do you wonder if you have any books out?  Log in to Destiny and click on the three lines in the upper left corner.  Click Checkouts to see what is currently checked out to you.

Thanks to a gift from the Hunt Valley PTA, you may now return your books, day or night, to the Library Book Return bin located next to the front door of Hunt Valley.

Thank you for remembering that other readers matter!

Curbside Checkout

 Three steps:

  1. Pick book(s).  If you know what you want, put the books on hold in Destiny (the library catalog).  If you need some advice or aren’t quite sure the titles you’re wanting, use the Google Form to get assistance from the librarians.
  2. Pick time.  Pick a time that works for your family on the SignUp Genius.  If it’s after 3pm on Friday – pick a time on the FOLLOWING Monday.
  3. Pick up books at your time.  Mondays, Hunt Valley ES, door 8 between 2pm and 6pm.
Mercy

This week's First Chapter Friday comes from Mercy Watson To the Rescue.  Mr. and Mrs. Watson see Mercy not just as a pig, but as a “porcine wonder.”  Mercy sees Mr. and Mrs. Watson as an excellent source of toast with a great deal of butter on it.  Is there anything better than hot buttered toast?!  Of course, but you’ll have to read Mercy Watson To the Rescue to find out!

Teacher appreciation forms updated on the PTA website

Do you know what sports team is your child's teacher's favorite? Do they prefer the symphony instead or have a favorite snack? Our HVES teachers have been asked to fill out a questionnaire about their favorite things. You can find your child's teacher's favorite form here: http://www.huntvalleypta.org/2020/06/teacher-appreciation-week-teachers-favorites/
