Talking To Children About Violence
These are not easy times for any of us and sometimes you might find yourself wondering how to talk to your children about violence in our world and in our community. The National Association of School Psychologists has provided the tips below for schools and families. Please know that our Clinical Team members (School Counselors, School Psychologist, and School Social Worker) are available to support students and families. Please visit Terra Centre’s Clinical Team Website for contact information.

LIBRARY PICK-UP UPDATES
Scheduling Updates
The next pick-up and return dates are Monday, January 11 and Monday, February 1 (1:00 – 4:00 p.m.)
New Procedure for Cold Weather
Please bring a piece of paper with your child’s first and last name to hold up. Please wear a mask, stay in your car, and hold up your sign. Books will be brought out to your car. When receiving your books, we will collect any books you’re returning.
Normally, we use the Kiss & Ride lane for distribution. However, we will use the Bus Loop on Monday, January 11. We will return to the Kiss & Ride lane on Monday, February 1.
Mystery Bags
If you have been participating in the Mystery Bag program (mostly Kindergarteners), I will assume that you want to continue receiving the bags unless I hear from you otherwise via email.
If you haven’t received them in the past and want to join up for January, please email me. 1st graders can also sign up if it would be easier for me to pick a selection of books for them if they’re having trouble making requests online.
Look forward to seeing you!

New Laptops for
3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Students
FCPS has invested in new laptops for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. Terra Centre will be distributing devices to 3rd and 4th grade students on Monday, January 11th. Students in 5th grade wil receive their devices on Monday, January 25 (more information will be sent home directly to families). Families can register for a time slot to exchange or receive a device using the appropriate Sign-Up Genius link below. If you have multiple students in 3rd or 4th grade, please register for one slot per student.
If your student currently has an FCPS device, please use this link to sign up for a time to exchange the laptop on Monday afternoon. At the selected time, please come to the Kiss and Ride lane of Terra Centre with a paper stating the student's name, grade level, and student ID#. Be sure to bring the laptop and charger assigned to your student, as those will need to be returned in order to receive the new device and charger. Your student does not need to be present to make the exchange, but the new laptop must be signed into using the student's login before leaving the school. When you arrive, please wear a mask and remain in your vehicle and a staff member will come to assist you.
If your student does not have an FCPS device assigned to them, please use this link to register for a time slot on Monday morning. At the selected time, please come to the Kiss and Ride lane of Terra Centre. You will need your student's name, student ID# (username), and password. When you arrive, please wear a mask and remain in your vehicle and a staff member will come to assist you. Paperwork will need to be completed, so feel free to bring your own pen.
If you have questions, please email Trea Bailey (jrbailey1@fcps.edu) and Chris Webster (cwebster@fcps.edu).
Community transmission of COVID-19 in Fairfax County remains high. As Superintendent Brabrand shared this week, the plan to bring students in Groups 1-5 back into school for in person learning is currently paused. These groups will remain 100% virtual for now.
Dr. Brabrand will provide an update on the Return to School plan to the School Board on Tuesday, February 2.

Bell Schedule
Because we will not be transporting students to school during the pause in our plan, we will not be moving to the new bell schedule on January 12. We will continue to use the current bell schedule and will communicate any future changes to the bell schedule in advance.
Teacher Planning and Preparation for
Return to School
Monday, January 11 will remain an independent (asynchronous) learning day for students and teacher preparation day.
Once we have a date for students and staff to return for in person instruction in school buildings, we will need to provide preparation days for teachers. Students will be doing independent learning on teacher preparation days. We will communicate those dates once we confirm return to school dates in the future.

Please join us on Monday January 11, at 7:15, for the first of four wellness classes focused on the adults in our community. We often give so much of ourselves that taking some time to reset and provide ourselves with some self-care is much needed. We will be offering the following classes:
- January 11
- January 25
- February 8
- Guided Meditation...February 22
These classes are free, but we do ask that you register (so we can send you the link) and complete our participation waiver.
