Eaglegram

Dear Clermont Families,

I hope that Winter Break was enjoyable for you and your family. The staff at Clermont ES wish you all a happy and healthy New Year!

This week, Superintendent Brabrand met with our school board to discuss his Return to School plan. The school board recommended pausing this plan now, and Superintendent Brabrand will meet again with the school board on February 2 to present them with a new Return to School plan. Therefore, our return to the building has been postponed at this time for all grade levels.

Because school busses will not be transporting students to and from school during the pause in our plan, we will not be moving to the new bell schedule on January 12. We will continue to use the current bell schedule of 9:05 am – 3:20 pm, with 3:20 pm – 3:50 pm remaining Family Choice Time.

I also want to clarify Clermont’s schedule for Mondays. The county has been advertising some Mondays as asynchronous. Clermont teachers will still be doing Morning Meeting on asynchronous Mondays. Our team feels that doing a Morning Meeting every day, including Monday, creates consistency for students and helps build community in the virtual setting. It also allows teachers to set the students up with their asynchronous work for the day. Please have your children plan on attending Morning Meeting every day.

Monday, January 11 will consist of our daily Morning Meeting, and then children will remain involved in independent (asynchronous) learning for the remainder of the day.

Once I have new dates for students and staff to return for in person instruction in school buildings, I will communicate this with you. Please email me with any questions you may have about the Return to School plan at rsalata@fcps.edu.

Take care of yourself and each other,

Ms. Salata

Clermont's Mental Wellness Team is Here to Help

Like most of you, we were shocked and disturbed by what transpired at our Capitol on Wednesday. We know that it can be difficult for all, and especially children, to process the emotions brought up in times like these. Clermont’s Mental Wellness Team is available to help you support your child. If you or your child would like to make an appointment with one of our school counselors, you may submit this referral form or reach out directly to a member of the team below. Additionally, families and students experiencing stress are encouraged to utilize supportive resources here.

Family Life Education Instructional Program Information

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve. Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.

Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program.  Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices.

If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms are available online for Elementary (K-6). Select the appropriate grade level FLE Opt-Out form for your child. On the form, enter your child’s name, teacher name, check the line next to the lesson(s) you do not want your child to take part in, sign and date the form. If possible, please scan completed form(s) and email them to kesimmons@fcps.edu. If you are unable to scan the completed form(s), please drop them off at the Clermont main office.

Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online at Elementary (K-6). FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for parents online in FCPS 24-7 (Blackboard) Parent View https://fcps.blackboard.com/. Account information is available at your local school or online at http://www.fcps.edu/is/instructionaltechnology/247help/parents.shtml. Grade level-specific lessons are also available at the Fairfax County Regional Library in the City of Fairfax (this location does not have media). Grade level-specific lessons and media that is not streamed online are available for review at your child’s school library. Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.

Program questions may be addressed your child’s teacher or by contacting Instructional Services at 571-423-4550 or by contacting Carrie Reynolds, Health and Physical Education Coordinator at cfreynolds@fcps.edu.
