Mrs. Campbell, Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, used the book This Plus That to engage students in critical and creative thinking earlier this week!
Dear Woodburn Families,
We hope that your family is safe and well. We enjoyed seeing our wildcats this week! Our teachers jumped right back into learning and our students are working hard. We are excited for all that we can accomplish before the end of the second quarter.
As we share important dates and timely information about school happenings and our return to school plan we will continue using our eNotify messaging system. If you are a parent/guardian and not receiving email or text messages from Woodburn on a regular basis please reach out to the main office at 703-641-8200. We may need to correct your phone number and/or email address.
Enjoy the weekend.
Sincerely,
Katy Richman, Principal
Bridget Louder, Assistant Principal

The district has designated Monday, January 11th as a full asynchronous (independent learning) day for students. We are modifying our plan for this coming Monday and are asking all students to sign into their classroom BBCU link at 9:00 on Monday morning. Teachers will meet with students in the morning to take attendance and explain assignments that are to be completed during this independent work time.
We will be holding our January principal chat next week on Wednesday, January 13th from 3:00-3:45. We will use this time to connect with families and answer any questions you might have about virtual learning, return to in-person learning, and any other current happenings. A meeting link will be shared next week. We hope you will join us!
Next week we will celebrate ROAR at Woodburn. We use ROAR to reinforce our expectations for student behavior. ROAR stands for: Recognize Your Value, Other People Matter, Always Ready to Learn, and Respect Property. Students will be encouraged to notice others practicing these behaviors throughout the week. We will wrap up our celebration on Friday by having a winter themed spirit day. Students in Grades K, 2, 4, and 6 are encouraged to wear BLUE and students in Grades 1, 3 and 5 are encouraged to wear WHITE.
Starting next week we will be holding our second quarter grade level team data days. During these meetings our teachers come together to look at student data and plan for targeted instruction by name and need across the content areas.
Students will participate in asynchronous learning on their grade level's team data day. Teachers will hold morning meeting with students and take time to explain work that is to be completed during this independent work day.
The full team data day schedule is below. Thank you for your support as we continue to prioritize collaboration and dedicated time for planning and data dialogues so that we can meet the needs of every student.

Harvesting for Good
The Woodburn garden in the outdoor classroom was full of fresh greens over the winter break. We were thrilled to be able to harvest many bags of fresh baby spinach, lettuce, and kale to donate to the neighborhood food drive.
Woodburn families are welcome to come visit the garden any time. Bring a bag with you and you may just take home a harvest of your own!
