Teresa

Thank you Mrs. Fennessy!  We wish you a Wonderful Retirement!

Greetings! As we ALL close our computers, our brains 😊 and prepare for a WELL DESERVED Winter Vacation, we must say one last goodbye, hurrah and congratulations to our principal, Teresa Fennessy!  As you all know,  Mrs. Fennessy has been a champion for Herndon Elementary School, students  and community since Day 1. She has been an amazing leader and led by example; comparing the staff to NAVY SEALS, instilling the belief that WE CAN DO ANYTHING and we all followed suit:  test scores raised, morale was at its highest in years and we became a family. You parents and the surrounding community took notice and became partners and stakeholders in what we all believed and embodied; students felt the excitement and the change in us all, they began to walk prouder, smile brighter and hug us tighter. They felt safe, supported and most importantly they KNEW we all believed in their abilities….beginning with our Mrs. Fennessy!

So join us in thanking her from the bottom of our Bee hearts – for her honesty, transparency, encouragement, and consistently pushing us all to BEE our very best.  We thank her for staying these last months to guide us thru an unprecedented time (WE ALL APPRECIATE THAT!!!)  We thank her for the countless hugs, the warm smile, always listening to parent/community concerns, her contagious energy and love for education, learning, children and the entire Herndon community  – we are forever grateful. Mrs. Fennessy, you have led by example on a daily basis, you deserve this wonderful opportunity to relax, shop, drink coffee and enjoy your precious family! So many leadership quotes fit you, but this one stands out (just like you):

“Leaders become great not because of their power but, because of their ability to empower others”

Thank you for empowering us all to BEE better, to BEE amazing, to BEE AWESOME (because we don’t do average)… ~Courtesy of a loving, appreciative staff member

New Herndon Bell Schedule and Return to School beginning January 12

Dear Herndon Bee Families,

At the School Board Work session on December 10, Superintendent Brabrand presented a plan to return all students who have selected the in-person option starting in January 2021.  Students who have selected in-person instruction, will return to school in a phased-in approach:

Grade Level

Current Return Date

PreK - Kindergarten

January 12

First and Second

January 19

Third and Fourth

January 26

Fifth and Sixth

February 2

A new bell schedule has been created for Herndon Elementary.  Beginning January 12, our bell schedule will change to 9:45 am to 4:15 pm for both virtual and in-person instruction.

Herndon Pyramid Return to School Bell Schedule

Herndon Elementary

 9:45am to 4:15pm

Herndon Middle School

 7:30am to 2:00pm

Herndon High School

 8:20am to 2:50pm

The fifteen (15) minute reduction in the school day is due to the increased cleaning time required between bus runs. Additionally, as more students return to school, the number of students allowed on each bus will be reduced substantially to meet social distancing requirements. With fewer students able to ride a bus at the same time, FCPS has no choice but to adjust the times that our buses are transporting students.

Sincerely,

Teresa Fennessy

Herndon Elementary Principal
