Message from the Principal

As we look forward to the final weeks of 2020, and the promise of a new and improved 2021, I am filled with a great deal of pride in our community for coming together during such a difficult and stressful year.  We have faced the challenges and ever-changing policies this global pandemic posed to us with patience, flexibility, and grace.  I feel so fortunate to be a part of the SHES family as we have constantly put our students’ safety, and well-being first and foremost in our decision-making throughout the year.

I hope each one of our students, families, and staff members will take the approaching time off from school to enjoy some much-needed holiday cheer, rest, and relaxation. Of course, I hope you will continue to read, write, and play together during our time away from classes.

If you want to schedule a time to connect with me this month or after the holidays, please contact my Administrative Assistant, Kathy N. Hammond, at knhammond@fcps.edu.  She can schedule a phone call or BBCU meeting with me.  I am always happy to talk and address any questions or concerns you may have as we look forward to 2021 together.

Enjoy your holiday!  Stay safe and healthy, and I look forward to seeing you in the new year.

All my best,

Interim-Principal Sal Rivera

Human Growth and Development is taught in grades 4-6. Our HGD will be taught by our classroom teachers in the Spring. There will be a virtual parent preview night prior to the start of HGD. We will send more information about the lessons that will be taught and the timeline for instruction closer to the date.

Opt-out letters and forms, parent preview night letters, and confirmation of opt-out requests are available at http://fcpsnet.fcps.edu/is/hpe/index.html.  Parents/guardians wishing to opt their child out of FLE instruction may return the completed opt-out form either in hardcopy or attached to an email.  Parents/guardians may also send an email stating the lesson(s) they are opting out of.

McLean/Langley Boundary Change Information

FCPS is continuing to study the boundary adjustment process for McLean High School and Langley High School. A meeting was held earlier in December to address questions and concerns regarding proposals and phase-in plans for boundary adjustments.  Families in the Springhill ES attendance area may potentially be affected.
