Scottie Tales for the week of 12/14

A Note From Your Principal

Dear Bonnie Brae families,

It is certainly an interesting time as we begin various holiday seasons in the time of COVID-19. With the report of an increase in the community spread of the virus in Fairfax County and the approval of the vaccine imminent, many of us are also making plans for our winter break while waiting for release of firm plans on distribution of the vaccine and timelines. It certainly is a season like no other that I have known.

As many of you are aware, our FCPS School Board discussed Return to School plans at their meeting last week. The DRAFT proposal for return to school dates is below. The is based on metrics and is subject to change; however, we felt it important that you have these dates as a heads up.  Please note that we will move to a revised bell schedule with the start of Group 5 students.  Our revised schedule will be 10:05 a.m. – 4:50 p.m.  This revised bell schedule will apply to all students, whether in person or virtual.  Please note this bell schedule is subject to change along with start dates.

Student Groups Proposed In-Person Start Date
Groups 1-5 (PAC, ECCP, EAC, PreK, K, select SWD students @ BBES) January 12
Grades 1 & 2 January 19
Grades 3 & 4 January 26
Grades 5 & 6 February 2

All of this will be revisited on January 5th at the School Board meeting.

Please keep in mind that these are tentative dates as health conditions can override these plans. Look for more information from Dr. Brabrand in the coming days.

As a reminder, we will need to make some teacher changes and adjust some students' in-person days as we phase into in-person learning. We do know that we will need to adjust our daily schedule in January and more information about this will be shared in the future. For all the latest on the health metrics driving Return to School decisions, please use this link.

We recognize that the constant change and evolution of decisions is exhausting and hope that this advanced warning is helpful.  We are so appreciative of the flexibility and grace you have shown and continue to show the staff of Bonnie Brae.

Wishing you and your family a safe holiday season and a very happy New Year.

Best,

Principal Skerker
