Updates from Herndon Middle School 12/14/2020

Classroom Monitors Needed

were hiring

When our in-person students return to Herndon Middle School, we will need some classroom monitors for the classrooms where teachers are teaching virtually.  Herndon Middle administrators are interviewing candidates for the monitor positions at our school.  This is an hourly position and we can consider flexible schedules.  Please consider applying for a monitor position by going to this site on the FCPS website.  You may select HMS as a preferred school.  You may also reach out to Herndon HerndonMSAdministration@fcps.edu with questions.

Chalkbox is a non-profit cause dedicated to providing accessible and interactive educational experiences during the Coronavirus pandemic. Our “Hands-On At Home" middle school program is designed for youth between the ages of 10 and 14. Our curriculum incorporates many hands-on STEM experiments that students can conduct from their own home with materials delivered to them and the virtual synchronous help of mentors.

The program will run from Saturday December 19 through Wednesday, December 23rd and meets from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. each day. Registration is $50 and includes the full cost of participation, access to materials, and delivery of materials to student’s home. Full scholarships are available to any and all students that indicate financial need.

Please email our team at ChalkBox@corefoundation.org to receive a scholarship code or ask us any questions! We will also be having an interest meeting to answer questions on Thursday, December 10th at 7:30 pm at www.tinyurl.com/infochalkbox.

Yearbook Photos Submissions

Students and Families: We need your help in collecting yearbook photos! In order to complete our 2020-21 yearbook, we need photos of our Herndon Middle School students learning from home. What photos can you submit of your student? Any and all! We are looking for photos of students in their distance learning environment, with friends and family, playing sports, with their pets, and many more! Yearbooks will go on sale when we return from Winter Break in January. Photos can be submitted three ways: HMS Yearbook Submission Portal on the HMS Website, download the Yearbook Snap app from your app store and use the code HMSyearbook, or email your photos to eagrogan@fcps.edu.

Any questions? Email Erin Grogan (eagrogan@fcps.edu)

Library Spotlight: Happy Holidays!

It’s almost time for Winter Break, and you know what that means…

...Two weeks to read whatever you want!

If you’d like to borrow anything to read during the break, use your student account to place a hold, and we’ll make it available for you as soon as possible. We have one more Curbside Pickup before break begins: Monday, 12/14, from 11:00am-2:00pm. Too late for that? Can’t stop by then? Arrange a pickup from the main office by emailing Ms. Carlson or Ms. Brinkman.

And if you are coming by the building, it’s a great time to return any library books you may still have at home. We’ll be happy to take books from any FCPS library, and we’ll make sure they get back to the right school.

Happy holidays!

Ms. Brinkman & Ms. Carlson
