A Message From Principal Yacubovich

Winter Spirit Week

Family Life Education

This is a reminder that we will be teaching Family Life Education this week. The curriculum is designed to be developmentally appropriate for each grade level. There are visuals in the upper-grade levels, where reproduction is covered, and your child will be learning the vocabulary that goes with this content. We strongly encourage you to provide your child with a learning space away from younger siblings.

If you did not opt your child out of the FLE lessons, they received a link to the BBCU classroom. This is where they should go to access the lessons. We will not use the Google Meet link to ensure students whose parents have opted them out do not accidentally attend.

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve.  Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.

Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program.  Opted-out students are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices.  If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt-out forms are available online for Elementary (K-6) https://www.fcps.edu/academics/elementary-school-academics-k-6/elementary-family-life-education, Middle School (7-8) https://www.fcps.edu/academics/middle-school-academics-7-8/family-life-education-fle, and High School (9-12) https://www.fcps.edu/academics/high-school-academics-9-12/family-life-education-fle.  Please fill in the opt-out form and return it to your child’s school before Family Life Education instruction.

Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online at Elementary (K-6), Middle School (7-8), and High School (9-12). FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for parents online in FCPS 24-7 (Blackboard) Parent View https://fcps.blackboard.com/.  Account information is available at your local school or online at http://www.fcps.edu/is/instructionaltechnology/247help/parents.shtml.  Grade level-specific lessons are also available at the Fairfax County Regional Library in the City of Fairfax (this location does not have media).  Grade level-specific lessons and media not streamed online are available for review at your child’s school library.  Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.

Winter Break Free Yoga Classes

We know that the winter season can bring on added stress to our already emotionally taxed families. One way that Pine Spring helps to support students with their emotions is through Yoga for Classrooms. Over winter break, we would love to bring this calm to your home.

We are lucky enough to have two trained yoga teachers on our school team. Mrs. Terlop and Mrs. Strong. They have agreed to lead us in 2 yoga classes over winter break. Please consider taking some time to join us as a family.

Return To School Plan

If CDC core health metrics and FCPS staffing metrics allow,  students in groups 5-8 whose parents selected in-person instruction will begin to return to school for two days per week of in-person instruction and two days per week of virtual instruction after Winter Break.

When students return to school, our new bell schedule will be 9:10 AM-3:55 PMThe bell schedule will not change until students return to school for in-person learning. The change is necessary to allow for social distancing on buses and provides time to sanitize buses between routes.

Kindergarten students whose families have chosen to have their students return to school in-person two days each week will tentatively return to school the week of January 11.  Kindergarten students who will attend school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays will return to school on January 12. Those who will attend school on Thursdays and Fridays will return to school on January 14.

Students in grades 1 and 2 whose families have chosen to have their students return to school in-person two days each week will tentatively return to school the week of January 18.  Grade 1 and 2 students who will attend school on Tuesday and Wednesday will return to school on January 19, and those who attend school on Thursdays and Friday will return to school on January 21.

Students in grades 3 and 4 will tentatively return the week of January 25.  They will attend school in-person on either Tuesday and Wednesday OR Thursday and Friday, as assigned.

Students in grades 5 and 6 will tentatively return the week of February 1. They will attend school in-person on either Tuesday and Wednesday OR Thursday and Friday, as assigned.
