1.Advanced Academic Program Local Level IV at Fairfax Villa

Currently, more than half of FCPS elementary schools offer level IV services for students without having to leave their neighborhood school.  As one part of improving equity to access and opportunity, the district has a three year plan to expand AAP local level IV programming to all FCPS elementary schools that do not already have it.  As part of the expansion, Fairfax Villa will be offering Level IV services beginning in 3rd grade for the 2021-2022 school year. One grade level above will be added in each subsequent year.

A virtual informational meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. as part of the next PTA meeting.  The meeting link is https://us.bbcollab.com/guest/e553065b5c314a049de3492858780664

Mark your calendars and plan on joining school administrators, Ms. Cat Wilkins, our FVES Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, and Ms. Kirsten Maloney, Coordinator of Advanced Academics Programs for FCPS, to learn more about this program.

In order to facilitate questions, a Google link has been created for you to submit any questions you may have prior to the meeting: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeqTRlB8o2gTTuEoTdpmFGUDD_yOrgEbyA1Ll-hV6ko5CQNOA/viewform?usp=sf_link

Please submit questions no later than Tuesday, December 15.

2.Book Fair Update

From Ms. Case, our Fairfax Villa Librarian:

Thank you for supporting our Fairfax Villa Book Fair! We hope you were able to find some great books in the new online fair. If you haven’t received your books yet, they are continuing to ship, and you should receive your order soon. We are excited to purchase some new books for our library that our students will be excited about reading!

3.Parent Choice Survey: 5th and 6th Graders

If you have not yet filled out the form to tell us if you want your student to be all virtual or to come to school for  2 days a week once FCPS starts bringing students back into the building, please do that today. We want to honor your wishes for which choice you want and we need that information from each of you so that we can plan.

We still have 36 fifth grade parents and 23 sixth grade parents whom we have not heard from.

Thank you for helping us to honor your wishes for your child.

6.Send us your pics!

Over the next couple of weeks, if you have created learning activities that your children have enjoyed or have pictures of your children learning online, please email us at drgerstner@fcps.edu and DRSutter@fcps.edu with a picture and a brief description.  We would like to share them in our upcoming Friday News You Choose messages and they may also be included in the 2020-21 yearbook.

7.Support Homeless Students for the Holidays

The Foundation for FCPS’ Kids in Need initiative is partnering with FCPS for our annual gift card drive to benefit homeless students. FCPS typically identifies up to 3,000 children per year as homeless. Many of them are unaccompanied, living without a parent or legal guardian. Securing essential needs such as clothing, medicine, emergency food, and hygiene supplies is even more of a struggle since the pandemic began.

If you are able to help, please make a donation which will be used to purchase gift cards and empower students to make purchases for their own personal needs. If you would like to donate a physical gift card(s), please mail it to:
