Message from FCPS Superintendent’s Office
Dear Families of Students in Group 3,
We are writing to let you know that current health metrics in our region are trending in a direction where it may soon become necessary for your student to return to virtual instruction.
For Group 3, we use the metric of the percentage of positive COVID-19 tests over the last 14 days in Fairfax County. If that number exceeds 10% for seven consecutive days, Group 3 students return to virtual instruction. Today, we learned there was a backlog of data posted to the Virginia Department of Health website and that this metric exceeded 10% on Sunday, December 6. If this trend continues for the next two days, your student will return to virtual instruction beginning Monday, December 14. We will notify you of this change as soon as the data is available to us on Saturday, December 12.
We realize that this is not easy news to hear, but we hope that this letter of caution will give you time to prepare. Again, this is not an official notification that your student is returning to all virtual instruction. Should that become necessary, you will receive a separate notice from your school with specific details for your student.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says that schools can reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission if they strictly follow mitigation strategies. We are in the process of collecting data at our schools and determining the thresholds for this core indicator so that even if community transmission rates remain high, we will be able to return more students to in-person instruction.
To help keep you informed, this information is updated daily on our website. FCPS is also tweeting the daily numbers on our FCPS Twitter account.
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) provides the new numbers before noon each day. Once the latest information is released, FCPS will move as quickly as possible to inform impacted families.
It is a challenging time and we understand this can be frustrating and difficult for families and staff. Thank you for your understanding.
Fairfax County Public Schools has proposed new bell schedule times for elementary schools. We anticipate a schedule change as we shift to in person instruction sometime in January/February 2021 due to social distancing constraints on the buses. We expect our revised bell schedule at Bailey's Upper to be 9:10-3:55pm. This schedule change will impact both in person and virtual students. We will share more specific information as it is available.
FCPS Food services will provide Bulk 14 Day Meal Kits during a bulk distribution on Tuesday, December 22nd from 8:00am to 12:30pm at Bailey's Upper Elementary School.

Students have been working hard to earn virtual Tiger Paws for their class by showing strong digital citizenship and participation in their online classes. This week at Bailey’s Upper we reached our next school wide goal of 60 Tiger Paws to earn our fourth spirit day of the year! We will celebrate Hat Day on Friday, December 18th. Students may participate by wearing their favorite hat as they learn. Students may also show their school spirit by wearing Bailey’s Upper gear!
We invite you to join us in a virtual spirit week next week as a fun way to show our school spirit as we head into Winter Break!

Is there a book you read that you really liked? Tell the school about it by creating a book review for BNN using Wixie!
Wixie is fun and easy to use. Students have an account that they log into through Clever.
These two short videos show how you can create your book review in Wixie. Creating Book Reviews in Wixie, Part 1 and Part 2
Give enough details to make it interesting – but don’t give away the ending!
