Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

Seeing so many of you during student item pick up was definitely a highlight of the past week!  Our next distribution won’t be until January 25th, which is a student holiday and a teacher workday; we will have morning and afternoon pickup times for this distribution. We also enjoyed our first Battle of the Books this week; congrats to all our participants! Additionally, we’d like to thank our PTA for a delicious, drive through lunch this past week. Our staff was so touched by the gesture and many have mentioned that they look forward to eating there again soon!

We know some of you may have watched the School Board Meeting last night where updated timelines and information about the metrics were shared.  We will be holding a Principal’s Coffee next Tuesday, December 15th at 8:00 am to hopefully be able to unpack some of the information for you and answer some of your questions. Look for a reminder email with the link on Monday morning. The main highlights are: 1) the proposed updated dates for groups to return; 2) the addition of the mitigation metric; and 3) the change to the bell schedule which would take effect as soon as the first group (Kindergarten) returns. FCPS determined our new bell schedule time would be 9:10 - 3:55pm.  This would apply to both our in-person students as well as virtual students due to concurrent learning.  These proposed changes are subject to approval from the School Board on Tuesday, January 5th, but we wanted this information on your radar.

Positivity Project: Self-Control

PP Logo

This week, we are focusing on Self-Control. You have the ability to control your emotions and behaviors. You think before you act.

“By constant self-discipline and self-control, you can develop greatness of character.”

                                         ~Grenville Kleise

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • Do you consider yourself to be a person who has self-control? What things do you do that indicate this?
  • Why is self-regulation important?
  • What happens when your emotions take over? How can you work on developing greater self-control?

Book Fair Success!

Thank you to everyone who purchased books during our virtual book fair. Not only do your kids benefit with new books and games, the library gets a portion of the proceeds which Mrs. Cole uses to buy more books to share. In addition, you’ve helped support a local company devoted to expanding the minds of our children.

Library Mystery Bags

Need new books?  Not sure what to search for in the catalog?  Well, look no further – Mrs. Cole to the rescue!  Fill out the appropriate grade level form and she’ll put together a “Mystery Bag” for your child. It might be great, or maybe not – but trying new things is what education and reading are all about.

(Note: Separate forms for K-2 and Grades 3-6)

Grades K-2 "Library Mystery Bags"

Grades 3-6 "Library Mystery Bags"

If you need inspiration, you can look at the included pictures and/or access the Library/Materials Schoology course for a look at previous years’ pumpkins.  As always, please contact Mrs. Cole if you have any questions.

Please fill out this form (Gr 3-6) if you would like to request a "Mystery Bag" from the Stenwood Library.  The "Mystery Bag" will include 3 books selected by Mrs. Cole.

WAIT FOR AN EMAIL BEFORE COMING TO STENWOOD

TO PICK UP BOOKS.

If you have a Yahoo email account, please check your spam folder.  Yahoo is blocking emails automatically generated by the library software.  If you are concerned that you missed a pick up time, please contact Mrs. Cole.

Questions? Please contact Mrs. Cole, our librarian, if you have any questions.

Don’t Forget to Return Your Library Books!

Library Book Return

While Mrs. Cole is happy that students are getting books during virtual education, she’s really happy when they come back so other students can enjoy them!  You can return books during curbside pickup when school is in session: Mondays from 2:30-3:30pm and Thursdays from 3:45-4:30pm.

If your child doesn’t know what has been checked out, they can log into Destiny Discover and see what they have checked out.  As always, contact Mrs. Cole with any questions you have.
