Justice Newsletter - December 6

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Justice Families,

I hope that you are enjoying this beautiful sunny day.

Next week all of our students will participate in school-wide Catch Up Days on Thursday, December 10th, and Friday, December 11th.  We have heard concern about workload and this is a dedicated time for students to get caught up on any missing work in each class.  Students will go to each class for attendance and to check in with their teacher regarding work that needs to be completed.  Teachers will not be teaching new content or providing any new assignments.  The next Catch Up Days will be during the 3rd and 4th quarters, if needed.

We value the partnership that we have with you, our families, to help our students be as successful as possible.  If you have needs or concerns, please reach out to your child's teacher, counselor and/or administrator.

Exact Path Challenge

Starting in December 7th, Justice High School will kickoff the Exact Path Challenge for student success. As a reminder, Edmentum Exact Path is a K-12 personalized math, reading, and language arts program that pinpoints learning needs and provides each student a unique set of lessons and activities to close skill gaps and propel learning forward.

How to WIN!

  1. Students will be encouraged, during 4th period Advisory, to work in their Exact Path learning paths to make individual growth and master skills! Students also have the flexibility to work outside of 4th period advisory on their learning path.
  2. When students complete lessons successfully and earn 80% or above for each skill on their Progress Check (the assessment that follows each set of skills) they will earn Trophies!
  3. Students can track their success by reviewing their Rewards area. Here, they can check in on Trophies earned and Challenges completed.
  4. Become a winner!
  • Individual students who earn 5 or more Mastery Trophies will be entered into a grade-level monthly raffle to win prizes! The winners will be drawn at the end of each month.
  • The top 3 classes with the highest number of Mastery Trophies earned by June 2021 will be awarded with a JHS Wolf Pack gift bag and their teachers receive a gift card to be used for instructional materials.
  • Questions about the contest? Email Candace Hyman chyman@fcps.eduwill

JHS Pack Leaders & Wolves Mentor Program

Calling all freshman students!  Have you heard about our JHS Pack Leaders & Wolves mentor program?  Once a month, Justice seniors and juniors are ready to answer your questions and support you in your first year of high school.  We tackle topics like organization, the benefits of gratitude, as well as how to tackle some of the obstacles presented by virtual learning.  We would love for every freshman to join us!  The next meeting is on Monday, December 14th at 1:45 pm.  If you would like to join, just look for a BBCU link in your fcpsschools.net email on Friday, December 11th to join us on the 14th.  We hope to see you there!

Daily Health Screening Requirement

daily health screening, using Covid-19 Health Screening Questions, will be required for all students prior to coming onto school grounds (this applies for Material Distribution Days, in-person instruction, and co-curricular/extra-curricular activities). The health screening tool is available in EnglishAmharicArabicChineseFarsiKoreanSpanishUrdu and Vietnamese.

As indicated in the Parent/Guardian Health Screening Commitment form, parent/guardians, will complete the health screening each morning, prior to sending the student to school. In order to reduce the spread of communicable disease to student and staff, it is critical that parents/guardians accurately complete this screening daily and keep students home from school when exhibiting any symptoms. These health screenings will be done on an honor basis and will not be required to be submitted to the school.

Parents or guardians will be required to make this commitment for all school-aged children in their household.

The Future of College Admissions

Langley High School's PTSA is pleased to invite your high school to participate in our upcoming free live webinar, "The Future of College Admissions," presented by Jeff Selingo, best-selling author, engaging speaker, and college admissions expert, on Tuesday, December 8, at 7 pm.

Mr. Selingo immersed himself in the world of college admissions for a year to answer a question on the minds of many high school students and parents alike: How do colleges select their freshman class? The result is his latest book, a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice, Who Gets In and Why: A Year Inside College Admissions

In his presentation, Mr. Selingo will dispel entrenched notions of how to compete and win at the college admissions game, reveal why families have much to gain by broadening their notion of what qualifies as a “good college," and explain how the pandemic is impacting college admissions. The session will wrap up with a Q&A.

Participants may register by clicking on this link: The Future of College Admissions. To submit questions for the webinar in advance, click here
