A Message from Ms. Jankovich

Dear Sangster Families,

As many of you know, every year in Fairfax County Public Schools, teams of administrators, teacher leaders, and other knowledgeable committee members develop a School Improvement and Innovation Plan (SIIP) based on a variety of data points. Teachers and staff play a crucial role in the implementation and monitoring of these school-wide goals. You can find the 2020 – 2021 Sangster SIIP At-A-Glance on our school website by clicking ABOUT in the yellow resources tab at the top and then scrolling to the bottom of the ABOUT US page. For the 2020 – 2021 school year, Sangster has identified three critical areas of need, to include providing all students more opportunities for increased rigor in the area of Language Arts, providing more access to Advanced Academic curriculum resources, and supporting students as they reflect on their strengths and growth areas as critical and creative thinkers (a Portrait of a Graduate skill). While our goals may vary in content, the desired outcome remains the same – providing all students equal opportunities to receive the support and resources they need to continue to thrive in school.

Sangster remains committed to creating an inclusive and equitable environment for all students who walk through our doors (or log on to our classes 😊). We continue to brainstorm and learn how we can achieve our goals from our FCPS colleagues as well as our students and parents. The following resource is just one of many that I will share with you in the coming months. It includes information, suggestions, and discussion prompts for parents and students of all ages (PreK-High School) in exploring concepts of identity, bias, and prejudice.

Beyond the Golden Rule: A Parents’ Guide to preventing and Responding to Prejudice

Again, we appreciate all of the love and support we continue to receive from our parent community.

Sincerely,

Allison

Acting Principal

Positivity Project

Week of November 29

Kindness

This week’s character strength is Kindness. Kind people think about the needs and feelings of other people, and then act to help those people. Kind people are selfless. That is why a true act of kindness is distinct from helping another person in order to simply gain something for yourself. An individual with the strength of kindness helps others because it’s the right thing to do, not because they expect any reciprocal treatment or gain in reputation.

The site P2 For Families is available for connecting P2 to your home and you can learn more about the site here. Many of the slides are password protected and the password is P2 (case-sensitive).
