Beyond the Golden Rule: A Parents’ Guide to preventing and Responding to Prejudice

KP School-Wide Read Alouds

This quarter all Kings Park classrooms will be celebrating the stories and illustrations of Juana Martinez Neal. We will read a different book each month and invite students to share a response to the book via Flipgird.

This month we are reading Alma and How She Got Her Name. Students are invited to log-in to the Flipgrid and share about their names. Please encourage your child to share and listen to the stories of other Kings Park students and teachers.

To access this flipgrid, students will choose to login with Google option and use their @fcpsschools.net google account.

What is the story of your name? What makes your name special? What do you love about your name? https://flipgrid.com/kpreadaloud

Tech Tip: Restarting Computers

Restarting your school issued laptop several times a week will improve computer performance. If you will not be using the computer over the weekend or during an extended holiday break, make sure to turn on and "restart" the computer a few times the day before the start of school that week. FCPS issues updates during the week and restarting the computer will allow these updates to install. It will take several minutes.

If you have issues with your FCPS issued laptop or would like to request a laptop for your child,  please submit a ticket through our IT Portal for families.

KP Community Resources

Check out the many resources in our community to support families with food, clothing, and other needs. Pleas share with information with anyone that you feel may be of benefit.

Referral Window for Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Level IV Screening Consideration Ends Today

Tuesday, December 1 is the close of the window (Sept 8-Dec 1) for parents to submit a referral form for their student to be screened for full-time Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Level IV. The parent referral form, submitted to the school, is one pathway to have a student screened for AAP Level IV. Parents should not wait for an announcement of the second grade screening pool if they want to make sure their student is screened for AAP Level IV in the coming cycle. Parents of students in grades 2-7 will need to submit the referral form by December 1.

Referrals will not be accepted after December 1. For more information about AAP Level IV or the screening process, please visit https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs.

If you have any questions regarding the referral process, please reach out to our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Mary Keane makeane@fcps.edu.
