Hello FCPS families, caregivers, and staff,

As we move into Thanksgiving break, I’d like to share my gratitude for you, and provide encouragement to you during this difficult time. Your flexibility, understanding, and resilience have gotten us this far with more success than may be obvious. We ask that you continue working with us to make this the best school year possible.

As we see COVID-19 infection rates continue to rise in our community, we must continue to pause in-person return for students in Group 5 (Early Head Start, PreK and Kindergarten). Health conditions do not support bringing Group 5 students back to school in person on December 1 as we had hoped. As soon as our specific health metrics indicate that it is safe to add more students for in-person instruction, we will begin to phase back in Group 5 and other groups in school buildings as quickly as possible. For more information, see the FCPS health metrics dashboard.

We understand that the pandemic’s disruption to your children’s education, to your jobs and incomes, and to your other caregiving responsibilities has been tremendous. We also could not be prouder of how our students and staff have stepped up to learn and teach in new ways and adapted to these challenges.

As you mark Thanksgiving this year in smaller, quieter ways, I hope you are grateful for all you have accomplished so far this school year.

I wish all of you and your families a safe and happy holiday.

Sincerely,

Scott Brabrand
Superintendent

FCPS COVID-19 Health Metrics Dashboard

The return to in-person instruction is currently determined by two core indicators as measured by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH): the number of new cases per 100,000 persons within the last 14 days and the percent positive test rate. FCPS has a public dashboard where you can see daily updates on these metrics as well as additional information on the specific thresholds that determine when each cohort may return to in-person instruction or when an in-person cohort may need to return to virtual instruction.

You can access the dashboard by clicking the COVID-19 Case Data button on the fcps.edu homepage or by following this link: https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/fcps-confirmed-covid-19-case-reporting

AAP Level IV

Reminder:  Referral Window for Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Level IV Screening Consideration Ends December 1

Tuesday, Dec.1st is the close of the window (Sept 8-Dec 1) for parents to submit a referral form for their student to be screened for full-time Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Level IV. The parent referral form, submitted to the school, is one pathway to have a student screened for AAP Level IV. Parents should not wait for an announcement of the second grade screening pool if they want to make sure their student is screened for AAP Level IV in the coming cycle. Parents of students in grades 2-7 will need to submit the referral form by December 1.

Referrals will not be accepted after Dec.1st. For more information about AAP Level IV or the screening process, please visit https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs.

Reminder for Parents/Guardians about SIS ParentVUE

This year more than ever, SIS ParentVUE (PVUE) is an essential tool for parents/guardians to keep up with their student’s attendance, progress report cards, and more. This will be the first quarter that we have offered a PDF version of the progress report and ES parents/guardians now have the option to “Go Paperless” for all report cards and progress reports. We want to start establishing the PVUE habit early with ES school parents/guardians. At the end of last school year, we reached a high of 80% of FCPS students with at least one parent/guardian with a PVUE account. We want to keep those account numbers and the usage going up so we can rely on it as a communication tool with parents/guardians.

Please access PVUE periodically to check in on your student(s) attendance and to view progress reports at the end of each quarter.  If you have not yet created a PVUE account, please do so by reaching out to the school SIA to provide an activation code. Details on what can be found in PVUE and how to activate a new PVUE account using your activation code can be found here - Student Information System - SIS Parent Account Overview

Tech Support for Parents and Students

To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, FCPS has launched a new Parent Technology Help Desk. The help desk can be reached at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS) and will be answered by staff members between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week.

Parents or guardians can call this number for basic tech support with parent accounts, help with FCPS student devices and technical assistance with other FCPS applications. If help desk staff members are unable to solve the issue, they will enter a support ticket on behalf of the parent/guardian to escalate the issue to the appropriate FCPS team. Parents who need help in a language other than English can inform the help desk staff when they call of their preferred language, and an interpreter will join in on the call.

FCPS has also set up Parent and Student Technology Support portal at https://itweb.fcps.edu/itsupport/ to allow older students and parents/guardians to request technology help directly. When a support request ticket is entered through the portal, it is auto-routed to the TSSpec at the appropriate site to expedite service.
