Rock ‘N Fun is in Full Swing - Important Reminders

Please take note of BOLD information & dates for your planning purposes.

The PTAs biggest fundraiser of the year - virtual Rock ‘N Fun - is in full swing!

Now through Monday, November 23 you can donate to support PTA-sponsored activities and programs:  https://slpta.org/rnr

THIS WEEK - daily virtual activities, videos, prize updates and challenges will continue via recorded videos. These will be shared with teachers for their classes to watch during morning meetings or when the teacher feels it works out the best in the class day.

Fundraising will be done as a school and divided between Pre-K/PAC - 5th grades The 6th grade uses the funds they raise to fund their expenses throughout the year.

If you haven't donated and are wondering what the Rock 'n Fun funds will be used for, the SLES PTA is working to provide tangible ways to support families who are learning virtually, and resources and programs to look forward to when students return to school. This overarching goal includes 1) resources to support outdoor education, 2) support for teachers on virtual platforms and in-person classrooms (i.e. classroom libraries), 3) non-screen learning tools for families, and 4) mindfulness initiatives.

DATE CHANGE: We will be distributing t-shirts for all students, as well as class prizes on Monday, November 23 at SLES from 1:00-5:00 pm.  We need volunteers to help! If you can help, please email Sara Jefferies: srlegel@yahoo.com

SLES PTA Inclusion and Advocacy Group virtual meeting Thurs. 11/19 @ 7pm

The SLES PTA Inclusion and Advocacy group will be holding its first virtual welcome meeting this school year on Thursday, November 19th at 7pm.

SLES supports a diverse group of learners, and navigating the educational system can be challenging, especially when your student requires specific supports for learning. The mission of this group is to provide an advocacy, connection and collaboration point for families with students in the IEP/504 process, while continuing to support and promote an inclusion-advocate culture at SLES with all staff, families and students.

Let's meet virtually to discuss the group, what activities we hope to plan this year and discuss how the first quarter went.

And to kick off our Book Fair, we will have Story Night for our families to enjoy some good tales together! We highly encourage 6th graders to participate again this year for this wonderful event. In the past, they have been the ones to share stories with the younger grades and we want to continue that!

Dec. 1st Heritage Stories Night: Families/Students share a story from their culture.

Dec. 2nd Create a Story Night: Families can create a story together.

Dec. 3rd Share a Favorite Childhood Story Night: Families/Students share their favorite childhood story.

Sign up to share your heritage story or favorite story here: https://signup.com/go/AciRVrJ

While you are enjoying these stories, why not order out? We've teamed up with McAlister's to do a restaurant night on 12/1. McAlister's will be giving SLES 25% of all dine-in, take-out, or curbside pick-up orders. More details on that to come.
