Glasgow Community Gazette - November 15

Glasgow Community:

It was a beautiful fall weekend in Northern Virginia. I was lucky enough to take an urban hike with close friends in DC in Rock Creek Park. It’s always so amazing how close we are to nature in our urban setting.

We have so much to celebrate at Glasgow! Each year, FCPS looks to honor several staff members for outstanding excellence in their roles, including Outstanding Teacher, Outstanding New Teacher, Outstanding Leader (School-Based), Outstanding Principal, Outstanding Professional Employee (School-Based) and Outstanding Operational Employee (School-Based). We believe that our staff is truly unparalleled, and that the work our teachers with our students and our community deserves celebration and recognition beyond our building.  Please take some time to nominate a teacher, a staff member or two! GMS Outstanding Employee Nomination Form

As many of you have heard, Dr. Brabrand shared at the board meeting last week that 6th graders - including those at Glasgow, Holmes, and Poe - will tentatively return to school on Tuesday, January 12, with the remainder of middle and high school students tentatively returning Tuesday, January 26. We are working hard to adjust our instructional model and our logistics as we gear up for the transition back to school. As you know, the health conditions are ever changing, and so the division is monitoring conditions carefully and will adjust this timeline as needed.

Have a great week, Glasgow Community! As always, please reach out with questions or concerns.

Technology Support @Glasgow - We continue to encourage all families who are having issues with your Glasgow issued laptop to call the Parent/Student Tech Support Hotline at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS).  The hotline is staffed 7 days a week from 7am to 11pm and multiple languages are available.  Alternatively, you can submit a support ticket online at https://itweb.fcps.edu/itsupport/.  If it is deemed that the problem cannot be fixed virtually, we will set up a time for you to come to Glasgow for a repair or exchange between the hours of 10am – 2pm, Monday through Friday.  If you show up outside of those hours or without an appointment, we cannot guarantee a tech will be able to service your laptop in a timely fashion.  Also, to keep the student laptops running well, encourage your child to “restart” the laptop at least once a week.  A restart is in the power options and is not the same as turning the laptop off, then turning it back on.  Restarts are vital in making sure the laptop receives and installs the most current updates to ensure optimal performance.
