This Week at Frost - November 13, 2020

This Week in Review

Greetings Frost Middle School Families,

This week I am so proud of our faculty and staff and the work we are doing at Frost MS! Thursday night we had our first town hall on Equity! Even though it was not well attended, the information that was shared was so important. We recorded the session for your viewing. Please watch it at your leisure! The recording can be found here: Frost PTA Meeting 2020-21 - recording_4

A special thanks goes out to Ms. Pepper, our Equity Lead, and Ms. Champ, our administrator collaborating with our Equity Committee, for their efforts to make this happen!

The work of a school continues on as we had our Equity Town Hall, our Book Circles, safety and security TableTop Exercise, our Instructional Council meeting and Picture Day this week! Thanks for all of the families who came out for pictures! I think there were well over 500 students that came out! We will have our second picture day in January! Hopefully we can have all students represented in the yearbook!

Don’t forget next Monday is supply pick up day! More information below!

Take good care,

 Anthony

Catch Up Day- November 24th

FCPS has asked all middle schools to consider adding in two “catch up” days per quarter to support in easing student workload and anxiety. This day are solely for students to catch up on work. Teachers will not be covering new material or assigning new work. Students are required to log in each period for support and attendance purposes. Classroom teachers will be available to support students as requested. Some teachers may have review or review games available for those students who do not need to get caught up on work. Again, all students are expected to log in for each class, the entire class, regardless of if they have work to complete or to “catch up”.

School Supply Pickup – November 16

The next school supply pickup day will be on Monday November 16, from 8-12 and 1-5.  Courses that will distribute supplies are:

  • All 8th grade students for English
  • All 7th grade students for English
  • Engineering (7th grade classes, only from 1PM-5PM)
  • FACS (only from 1PM-5PM)
  • Library check out

If your child is enrolled in one or more of those classes, please drive to Frost during the stated pick up time to gather their materials.  You will need to bring a piece of paper with your child’s name (first and last), grade number, and course enrolled in.  For English classes, please include teacher name and period number.  Students are not required to come but may.  All drivers & passengers must remain in their vehicle at all times.

When you arrive at Frost:

  • Use the attached map to follow the traffic pattern.

Supply Traffic Map 2nd quarter.docx

  • Determine what station(s) you need to stop at.  You do not need to stop at every station.
  • Drive to the station your child needs supplies from.
  • Show the staff member your paper
  • The staff member will place those supplies in your vehicle
  • Exit station/parking lot carefully!

Please note that 7th grade students or students who are not checking out library books will use Exit 1 to leave the parking lot.  English students will be picking up a novel.  Students who already own the class novel or prefer to access the book digitally may do so and are not required to receive a copy from Frost.

To help traffic flow, cars will be able to move around other cars that are stopped for supplies.  Drivers will need to move slowly at all times in the parking lot and check for other vehicles while moving between stations.  Some Frost Staff will be on site to assist with traffic, but we ask for slow driving at all times for their safety and yours.

Picture Day

The Frost MS Picture Day that was held on November 11 was a huge success.  We had 563 students come to Frost to have their school picture taken.  The students did a wonderful job following social distance rules!

The Picture Make-Up Day will be on Monday, January 11.  If you didn’t get a chance to come to the first picture day, please mark you calendars!  We will have more details as we get closer to the date.

Math Inventory

The Math Inventory is a universal screener and growth monitoring assessment that measures math growth on the Quantile Framework® for students in Grades K to 12 (Kindergarten through Algebra II or High School Integrated Math III).  All FCPS middle school students enrolled in the following courses will need to complete the test in November:

  • Math 7
  • Math 7 Honors
  • Pre-Algebra
  • Algebra and Algebra Honors

All math classes are giving students instruction on how to log-in and username/password information (as they did with the reading inventory in English earlier this year).  The majority of classes, with the exception of Algebra Honors, introduced the test this week by showing a short video and some students will have time to begin the test in class.  Completion will be assigned as an asynchronous activity due in November.  We have attached additional information (general instructions and accessing the test) in case students have additional questions while at home taking it independently.

Students Recognized by Teachers and Staff

Despite our virtual setting and physical distance, Frost teachers and staff still want to recognize the wonderful contributions our students are making to their classes. Monthly drawings will be made from the submitted names. Every student entered has a chance to win. We are ONEFrost! Keep up the great work – we appreciate every student!  https://frostms.fcps.edu/resources/students-being-recognized

Save the Date!  Family Life Education Program Preview – December 1

On Tuesday, December 1st at 7:00pm, the 7th and 8th grade Health and PE teachers will be holding a virtual meeting for parents to preview the Family Life Education Program.  This program, which is composed of the Emotional and Social health unit and the Human Growth and Development unit, tends to have sensitive topics.  Parents may choose to opt their children out of these lessons, either wholly or partially.   We strongly encourage parents to review the Middle School Family Life Education Program descriptions at this link:
