FREE KMES Spirit Wear for all Students!

The generous KMES PTA purchased a 2020-2021 Kanga t-shirt for every student!  The t-shirts and class pictures from last school year will be available for pickup on Monday, November 16 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.  The drive through will be at the Kiss & Ride loop in a style similar to previous supply pickups.  Please write your child’s name, grade, and shirt size in large, clear print on a piece of paper to hold up as you come to the K&R.  Staff members will bring your child’s t-shirt and picture to your car.  Kindergarten students will also receive workbooks from their teachers.   We are looking forward to seeing all students in their spirit wear every Friday this school year!

KMES Employment Opportunity

KMES will be hiring three classroom monitors to provide in-person classroom assistance for students when a staff member remains virtual.  If you would like more information about the position, please review the job description and qualifications online and apply if interested. We also ask that you email assistant principal Tim Paper at TSPaper@fcps.edu to let us know that you have applied! Please feel free to share information about this opportunity with anyone else you think may be interested.

Positivity Project

This year, Keene Mill will continue implementing the Positivity Project (P2). P2 is dedicated to empowering America’s youth to build strong relationships and to understand, appreciate, and exemplify the character strengths in us all.

Next week, students will be learning about gratitude. Gratitude means that you are aware of and thankful for good things that happen. Gratitude is the quality of feeling and expressing thankfulness and appreciation. It is an affirmation that there is goodness in other people and the world, and that we have received that goodness. People with the strength of gratitude have a readiness to show appreciation for kindness and also to return kindness.

New to FCPS K-3rd Grade Student Speech and Language Screenings

Students newly enrolled in Fairfax County Public Schools in kindergarten through 3rd grade must be screened in the areas of speech, voice, and language to determine if a referral for an evaluation for special education and related services is indicated. Screenings will be coordinated at each school by our speech-language pathologist, Bridget Sweeney. Screenings may take place in-person or virtually.

Screenings for new to FCPS students in kindergarten through 2nd grade who are currently enrolled will be initiated the week of December 1, 2020.  Screenings for new to FCPS students in 3rd grade who currently enrolled will be initiated the week of January 4, 2021.  Students who enroll after their grade level returns to in-person instruction will be screened within 60 business days of enrollment.
