Wildcats enjoy learning at Hidden Oaks as part of our PTA enrichment series!

6th grade students participated in a Falls Church pyramid strings event!

Dear Woodburn Families,

We hope you are healthy and well.  We are excited to welcome around 50 kindergartners back next week. A small group of special education students will also be returning.  It will be nice to have the building buzzing again!  We extend our appreciation to the following teachers who have or will be returning in-person - Ms. Ahmad, Ms. Bryan, Ms. Cooper, Ms. Dyson, Ms. Johnson, Ms. Kingsley, Ms. Partyka, Ms. Postiglioni and Ms. Walton.

We look forward to connecting with families in grades 3-6 next week to share information about our return to school plan.

Enjoy the weekend!

Sincerely,

Katy Richman, Principal

Bridget Louder, Assistant Principal

Full-Time Advanced Academic Programs, Grades 3-8 (Level IV)

Deadline for Referrals is December 1st

Screening is held for any FCPS-enrolled student who has been referred in grades 2 through 6.

A referral form may be turned in during the referral window ending on December 1, 2020. Due to the volume of files screened centrally for Level IV services, deadlines are strictly held.

The referral form is linked here and is available on the Forms page of the AAP Website - https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs-aap/advanced-academic-program-aap-forms

Level IV services are available for students in Grades 3-8 who are found eligible through a central selection process. Eligible students use curriculum from the AAP Curriculum Framework in the four academic subject areas on a full-time basis. Multiple criteria are reviewed to determine eligibility for all FCPS advanced academic services. The countywide central selection committee determines eligibility for full-time AAP Level IV placement. Screening for Level IV services occurs during specific screening cycles:

Additional information about the holistic screening process and information used for screening can be found at https://www.fcps.edu/registration/advanced-academics-identification-and-placement/current-fcps-students.

Please contact Margie Campbell at mmcampbell@fcps.edu with any questions.

New to FCPS Student Speech, Voice, and Language Screenings: Kindergarten through 3rd Grade

Per Virginia Child Find Regulations (8 VAC 20-81-50), students newly enrolled in Fairfax County Public Schools in kindergarten through 3rd grade must be screened in the areas of speech, voice, and language to determine if a referral for an evaluation for special education and related services is indicated. Screenings will be coordinated at each school by the assigned speech-language pathologist(s). Screenings may take place in-person or virtually.

Screenings for new to FCPS students in kindergarten through 2nd grade who are currently enrolled will be initiated the week of December 1, 2020.  Screenings for new to FCPS students in 3rd grade who currently enrolled will be initiated the week of January 4, 2021.  Students who enroll after their grade level returns to in-person instruction will be screened within 60 business days of enrollment.

Donate Now to the Wildcat Direct Donation Campaign!

The PTA funds an important array of enriching programs and events that benefit our children, school, and community. Due to the circumstances related to COVID-19, the Woodburn PTA decreased our budget this year and decided to forego multiple fundraisers in favor of a Direct Donation Fundraising Campaign.

Our fundraisers support teacher classroom grants and appreciation, enrichment programming, and social activities. This campaign is the PTA’s primary fundraiser and requests a one-time monetary donation rather than asking our community to sell items.

The only other fundraisers planned for the year are spirit wear, limited restaurant take out nights, and passive fundraising (e.g. Amazon Smile or Box Tops). Direct donations allow 100% of contributions to go directly to the PTA, and are tax-deductible.

Our goal is to raise $12,000 to support PTA programming.

Donate now and we won’t ask you again!
